Actor Kevin Sorbo called out the overreach by state and local governments in the face of the coronavirus pandemic and warned Americans not to be “lead like blind sheep.”

The conservative star known for his role in the series “Hercules” spoke with “Fox & Friends” on Sunday about the sweeping guidelines imposed by cities and states in response to the coronavirus crisis, warning it is all “about control and power.”

Fox News co-host Pete Hegseth asked Sorbo about a recent tweet in which he said: “WAKE UP PEOPLE — If you think this is all about your health you’re mistaken! Please open your eyes! Stop being lead like blind sheep.”

Sorbo clarified that he did not write the tweet but agreed with it after a friend sent it to him.

“I loved it because I’ve said all those things before,” he explained before clarifying his view.

“I’m not saying this virus isn’t dangerous. Of course, it’s dangerous… But you know, look at the common flu,” Sorbo continued.

“The so-called common flu is 60 to 80,000 people a year die every year from the flu. Are we doing anything about that? Are we social distancing from that?” he added. “There’s more going on here guys and it’s about control and power over our lives. That’s what government wants to do.”

His wife, actress Sam Sorbo, jumped in to suggest that “civil disobedience” may be necessary to push back against the government overreach.

“I’ve seen small businesses opening, defying the state orders,” she said.

“We need business because guess what’s essential, folks. Food is essential and feeding your family is essential. And the fact is we established this nation for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The pursuit of happiness or prosperity is actually having a job,” she added.

“Let’s send a message to Washington,” she continued. “Maybe your job is not essential. Maybe you shouldn’t be getting paid because there are people who are suffering today, who are not even getting their minimum wage pay because the government has determined that their job is not essential.”

Sorbo then pointed out that “it’s amazing you can have a Walmart open, you can have Targets open but you can’t have small businesses open,” he said, complaining about golf courses being closed as well.

“It’s insane!” the 61-year-old actor exclaimed.

Fox News host Jillian Mele interjected to address Sorbo’s comparison of COVID-19 to the flu.

“All the experts do say that this is different and a lot more contagious than the flu,” Mele said. “And we do need to take certain medical and safety precautions. So just want to clarify that.”

“But there are also medical professionals who are saying we should not be social distancing,” Sam Sorbo countered.

“There are medical people who have done studies,” she added, noting that there are some who are saying “we need herd immunity, we need people to get out… wash your hands, sure. But maybe this was an overreaction.”

Mele offered another point, noting that Dr. Anthony Fauci , a member of President Trump’s coronavirus task force, has suggested social distancing has been effective in slowing the spread of the virus.

“It means never then,” Sorbo responded. “There’s always going to be viruses out there. Is this virus going to go away and be gone forever? Eventually we have to go back to living lives.”

Sorbo has made the argument against the stringent government controls in many posts on his Twitter account, calling for Americans to “wake up” as he commented and retweeted others.
