While many on the left were more than willing to slay the #MeToo movement in order to run interference for Joe Biden, in response to sexual assault accusations by a former staffer, one Democratic lawmaker went too far in trying to protect the party’s standard-bearer and it cost him his job.

Democratic New Hampshire state Rep. Richard Komi resigned Saturday after posting a “hurtful” tweet claiming women couldn’t be sexually assaulted unless there’s “some cooperation from the female herself.”

Tara Reade accused the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee of forcing his finger inside of her in 1993 when she worked on Biden’s Senate staff, and after doing its best to ignore the story, the media was forced to cover it when Biden addressed the claim Friday on MSNBC.

Biden adamantly denied the allegation but was equally adamant about not opening records held by the University of Delaware to see if there is a copy of the complaint Reade has said she filed.

Komi responded to that interview in a tweet he has since deleted to say: “Judging by the position of the female vagina, it will not be easy for anyone to just put their finger into the vagina unless their (sic) is some Cooperation from the female herself. That is why I believe Tara Reade’s allegations is false. She is looking for attention.”

New Hampshire House Speaker Steve Shurtleff, a Democrat, responded by calling on Komi to resign.

“I am appalled by Representative Komi’s comments. They were dismissive and hurtful to survivors of sexual assault across the Granite State and across the country,” he said, according to Fox News. “The comments are not fitting for the New Hampshire House of Representatives and immediately upon learning of them I called him and asked Representative Komi to resign his seat.”

New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley backed the speaker’s play.

“Representative Komi’s comment is wrong, inappropriate, and offensive to all Democrats, and does not reflect the values of our party. I applaud Speaker Shurtleff’s swift action, calling for Representative Komi to resign immediately,” Buckley said.

Komi, a Nigerian refugee who came to the U.S. in 1999 and was elected to the state House in 2008, served up that resignation Saturday, in a letter to Shurtleff.

“I also want to offer my sincere apologies to anybody whose feelings may have been hurt by the tweets. I am and will continue to be a supporter of victims of sexual and domestic assault,” Komi wrote, according to The Associated Press. “The tweets were very poorly worded and do not reflect who I am and what I stand for. I ask for the forgiveness of all who have been a victim of sexual or any other kind of assault.”

Back in February, when Biden was in his state, the politician shared photos with the candidate and his wife, Jill Biden, on Facebook.

I have fun memories of the Biden campaign here in New Hampshire

Democrats who forcefully attacked Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing last year, when Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford accused him of sexual misconduct during high school, more than four decades ago.

Claiming all women should be believed, even though Ford was vague about many aspects of her claim, such as when and where, and had no collaboration, Democrats called for an FBI investigation.

Yet, now that Reade has come forward with a more credible claim, and has plenty of collaboration, there is an effort to stand behind Biden.

And a Biden campaign surrogate hopes the FBI will launch a criminal investigation into three liberal journalists for their reporting of the Reade story — which she called a “fraud.”
