U.S. Attorney for Connecticut John Durham could potentially bring charges against FBI agents in the wake of bombshell documents released this week related to an interview with Michael Flynn.

Durham, who has been conducting an investigation of the Trump-Russia probe, has reportedly reviewed the newly released FBI notes that show how the former national security adviser was ambushed in an interview in January of 2017, according to sources cited by Fox News on Friday.

A “serious case” is being built, the sources indicated, as actions by the Justice Department and the FBI are being reviewed following the revelations from the damning handwritten FBI notes showing Flynn was set up. Durham is reportedly speaking regularly with Attorney General William Barr and working with Jeff Jensen, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, in reviewing Flynn’s case.

“Durham has seen all of this already,” and the information “could be sufficient for some charges against agents,” one source told Fox News.

“It’s a crime to present under oath false or misleading information,” the source added. “Not to mention obstruction of justice.”

Durham’s team is “building a very serious case,” another source said.

The revelations in the newly released documents revealed a perjury trap set up by the FBI, as one of the handwritten notes read: “What is our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute [Flynn] or get him fired?”

Flynn’s attorney Sidney Powell indicated that more documents were coming as former Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland slammed the agency for its ultimate goal to get at President Donald “and stop his administration dead in its tracks.”

Sources told Fox News that it is “disturbing to Durham” that “there weren’t any whistleblowers” who emerged at the start of the Russia investigation and added that more documents would soon be coming as Barr continues his probe of Flynn’s case.

“Barr talks to Durham every day,” a source told Fox News. “The president has been briefed that the case is being pursued, and it’s serious.”

“They’ve asked the president to say nothing about it and not screw it up. He is laying back for a change,” the source added.

Trump told reporters on Thursday that he “would certainly consider” bringing Flynn back to the White House.

“What they did to Gen Flynn was a disgrace,” he said. “What they tried to do to destroy him and to hurt this presidency was … perhaps in our country’s history there’s never been anything like it.”

Trump also indicated that he would not need to pardon the retired United States Army Lieutenant General who pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI in 2017.

“Look, I’m not the judge but I have a different type of power. I don’t know that anyone would have to use that power,” the president said. “I think he’s exonerated.”

“They would prefer that he be exonerated,” a source told Fox News, “because then it’s an exoneration by judicial process and not a pardon from a friend, or a co-conspirator as some would allege.”

“It would have more value from a public policy standpoint if the courts do it,” the source added, saying, “Obviously if that happens then the exoneration has credibility.”

Earlier this month, Barr told Fox News host Laura Ingraham that the evidence from Durham’s investigation was “far more troubling” than just “mistakes or sloppiness.”

Durham may be wrapping up his investigation by the end of the summer, multiple sources told Fox News, with some indicating it could be sooner but may depend on the effect of the coronavirus crisis on his team’s timeline.

“If they don’t have it, they’re not going to bring it,” one source told Fox News. “But they think they’ve got it.”
