Trump’s parody ad mocking Obama’s endorsement of Biden gets more views in half a day than original

It’s noteworthy that as quick as Barack Obama exploded on the national scene in 2008, after two terms as President of the United States, he has just as quickly faded from the minds of many Americans.

Look no further than video Obama released as he endorsed his former vice president, Joe Biden, for president in the 2020 election — fittingly, it took Obama 12 minutes to accomplish the feat, which is the length of the video.

Turns out, a satirical video from President Trump’s reelection campaign mocking the endorsement drew more eyes in a matter of hours than Obama’s video did in the last week, according to Fox News.

The Obama video received 10.2 million views since last Tuesday, yet Trump’s video topped that figure “within roughly 13 hours,” garnering 10.3 million views.

In the Trump ad, which is a parody of an Allstate commercial, Obama and a group of friends are watching a basketball game when the broadcast goes to a commercial.

The commercial features a real 2017 quote from the gaffe-prone 2020 presumptive Democratic nominee, as he talked about being a lifeguard at a Delaware pool when he was a young man.

“The kids used to come up and reach in the pool and rub my leg down so it was straight and then watch the hair come back up again,” Biden says. “So I learned about roaches. I learned about kids jumping on my lap, and I loved kids jumping on my lap.”

The camera first goes to Obama — his head is superimposed over Allstate spokesman Dennis Haysbert’s head — who is looking on uncomfortably as Biden talks. Slowly, all three friends begin to stare at Obama, who then replies, “What?”

The implied message that Obama is responsible for Joe Biden being thrust upon the nation is impossible to miss.

The fake commercial then flashes a Trump/Pence 2020 campaign logo as DJ Kool’s “Let Me Clear My Throat” begins playing in the background.

It’s a brilliant ad.

And popular too, it would appear.

Ever-helpful, Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son and namesake, shared a longer clip of the Biden quote featured in his father’s ad back in December.

It’s worth noting that Obama did not endorse Biden until the 77-year-old was the last man standing in the Democratic primary.

“I’m so proud to endorse Joe Biden to be president of the United States,” Obama said. “Choosing Joe to be my vice president was one of the best decisions I ever made, and he became a good friend. And I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a president right now.”

The former president, who once received Politifact’s “Lie of the Year” award for his infamous line about being able to “keep your doctor,” told viewers that Biden was up to handling the severe challenges the nation faces as a result of the coronavirus.

“Joe has the character and the experience to guide us through one of our darkest times and heal us through a long recovery,” Obama said. “And I know he’ll surround himself with good people – experts, scientists, military officials who actually know how to run the government and care about doing a good job running the government.”

The video is seen here, though watching it in its entirety is 12 minutes of your life that you will never get back.

One of the best memes to emerge following the endorsement played on the growing concerns about Biden’s mental agility, as the candidate has again and again stumbled during recent interviews, flubbing lines and forgetting his train of thought.
