Multimillionaire fashion blogger and influencer Arielle Charnas may have accidentally canceled herself thanks to her coronavirus-linked behavior, though whether she truly deserves to be canceled remains to be seen.

First, she made the faux pas of seeking coronavirus testing from a close friend who just happens to be a “fancy doctor,” as reported by Page Six.
“Critics slammed the New York City-based blogger for using her ‘privilege’ to obtain one of the treasured tests — even after she had said she didn’t meet the criteria,” the outlet reported.

After testing positive for the coronavirus, she made the added faux pas of “fleeing” to the Hamptons with her husband and children to effectively chill.
Additional photos on her Instagram show her committing apparently grave inequities such as spending time with her children, loitering immediately outside her home (and away from crowds) and, worst of all, continuing to have fun.

“Thousands left angry messages after Arielle posted images of herself sitting outside in the Hamptons eight days after she announced her test results. She documented every moment of her coronavirus journey on Instagram, including the arrival of a Louis Vuitton bag at her home,” Page Six reported.
It’s not clear what was wrong about her behavior. According to The Guardian, New York’s lockdown rules still allow residents “to enjoy the outdoors,” so long as they practice social distancing. After all, people still need to breathe, exercise, etc.
Nevertheless, in response to the hate and death threats that she received, Charnas eventually issued a statement both through Instagram and her Something Navy website.
“I’ve built my career on letting people into basically every part of my life. … But this month, the critics’ voices have been very loud, hurtful and largely misinformed. I’ve been accused of falsifying my own test results which is unequivocally untrue,” she wrote.
“I’ve also been receiving death threats against my entire family including my two young daughters. At this point, all I can do from here is tell you how I came to reach the decisions that are very validly being questioned — decisions that were often made behind the curtain of social media — and why I made them in the best interest of my family and my community.”
While defensive, the statement was nonetheless an apology.
“We are all human. We all make mistakes, including me, especially when a crisis such as this is developing so quickly. My family and I are truly sorry to those we have offended for not appearing to be taking this crisis gravely seriously, and we are committed to making informed, responsible decisions moving forward,” her statement concluded.

Again though, it’s not clear that this “Covidiot,” as she’s been dubbed, actually did anything wrong. As she explained in her full statement, the reason she “fled” the Hamptons was specifically to quarantine herself away from NYC’s busy streets.
“I can only speak for my family when I say that our standing concern lies in whether or not we are continuing to put others at risk,” she wrote. “We have learned firsthand that what happens after you first test positive for COVID-19, then complete the necessary quarantine, is still unknown.”
“But based on the facts available to us right now, as well as throughout our experience in the last several weeks, I’m confident this was the right move to reduce potential spread. Our care team, who helped us reach this decision, will agree with me.”

It seems part of the fury against her may be rooted in class warfare. Yes, she’s enjoyed the luxury of being able to first obtain a quick coronavirus test and then quickly flee the crowded city for more isolated quarters. Beyond that, though, her real crime remains unknown.
The same may not necessarily be said of her husband, Brandon Charnas, who made the error of insulting his wife’s critics.
“[I]n a direct message seen by Page Six, her husband … called a former Something Navy fan, Andrea Rodríguez, “a loser” after she posted an Instagram Story calling Arielle ‘reckless, selfish and irresponsible,'” Page Six reported.
“‘Get a life,’ Brandon said with a number of laughing emojis. He told Rodríguez, whose alma mater is listed in her bio, ‘Cornell was a safety school, hahahaha.’ Brandon — who went to the University of Pennsylvania and is the founder of commercial real estate firm Current Real Estate Advisors — also has the virus, as does their kids’ nanny, who is with them in the Hamptons.”
To be fair, it’s pretty standard for men to be protective of their other half …
