Kathy Griffin sticks to COVID-19 angle despite being sent home from hospital with abdominal infection

Comedian Kathy Griffin continued to dramatize her stint at a hospital coronavirus isolation ward despite being sent home with an abdominal infection.

Griffin bashed the Trump administration when she revealed  she was in a hospital Wednesday but could not get tested for COVID-19 “because of CDC (Pence task force) restrictions.”  Though the 59-year-old entertainer showed none of the coronavirus symptoms and was sent home with a different diagnosis, she took to Twitter to claim she “still has no idea” whether she tested positive or negative for the virus.

In a series of tweets Thursday, Griffin quoted from a Los Angeles Times article on her experience, which she unfolded on social media earlier that day.

“Kathy Griffin might have been exposed to the coronavirus. Or she might not have. After a recent trip to urgent care and the emergency room while gravely ill, the comic wasn’t able to get tested,” the tweet citing the Times story read.

Speaking to the newspaper by phone on Wednesday, Griffin revealed that she was back home and taking medication to treat an abdominal infection and “won’t know whether she’s turned the corner for a couple of days.”

Griffin had called President Trump a liar Wednesday when she tweeted a photo of herself lying in a hospital bed wearing a mask, claiming she was sent to a “COVID-19 isolation ward in a major hospital ER” from an urgent care facility she had visited after showing “unbearably painful” symptoms.

“The hospital couldn’t test me for #coronavirus because of CDC (Pence task force) restrictions,” she wrote, citing Vice President Mike Pence who leads the administration’s coronavirus response team and claiming Trump was “lying” about the great number of tests being conducted.

Griffin continued tweeting parts of the flattering (for her) LA Times interview, in which the urgent care doctor allegedly told her to go the emergency room to get tested rather than wait for 13 days for the facility to secure a test.

“Someone at Cedars said to me, we cannot give you this test because of the CDC guidelines. I’m suggesting that the guidelines are still too strict because they don’t have enough tests,” Griffin told the outlet.

Griffin was angry at the Trump administration’s coronavirus response, ranting about her inability to get tested though the hospital was clearly following the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Griffin was not experiencing the coronavirus symptoms, including a cough, trouble breathing and fever, which was why the hospital did not administer a COVID-19 test.

Griffin, who had been self-quarantining with her husband after a trip to Mexico, had stomach issues that surfaced over the weekend and went away before returning with pain, violent vomiting and diarrhea.

“We were both nervous because we were still in the incubation period after returning from Mexico, but also we had not left the house in days,” Griffin told the Los Angeles Times. “We’d been hearing about a 14-day incubation period [for the coronavirus]. So for me to get what felt like food poisoning after six days, I thought, OK, is this a coincidence or what?”

None of the comedian’s tweets revealed that she was given an x-ray at the hospital which revealed she had clear lungs, but she was still acting surprised that she would not be tested for the coronavirus because she didn’t meet the CDC’s requirements.

“The realization when they told me the guidelines was, ‘Wow … I now know not to come back unless my lungs are full with what feels like pieces of shattered mirror, unless I can’t breathe and unless my fever is 103 …,’” Griffin said.

“They’re not making the rules at all. That’s a frightening feeling. I just think it’s so obvious that those tests have to be accessible to everybody…. A lot of people, when they hear the president saying everyone who needs a test should get one, then shouldn’t have to then go to a hospital where, frankly, they may be exposing themselves or exposing others,” she added.

Approximately 26,400 tests have been conducted in California, according to the LA Times. And celebrities like Tom Hanks, Idris Elba, Debi Mazar, Daniel Dae Kim, and Andy Cohen, who all tested positive for COVID-19, apparently had no issues getting a test administered.

But it seems Griffin never needed one as her only symptoms were for the abdominal infection and TDS – Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Twitter users had another opportunity to blast Griffin’s “drama” after her updated tweets.
