Dr. Mehmet Oz believes President Donald Trump’s goal to reopen the US economy by Easter may be achievable.
The cardiac surgeon and television host spoke about the ongoing coronavirus crisis and the president’s plan to get America back to work during an appearance on Fox Business Network’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight.”

“We know we’re going to defeat this pandemic anyway, no matter what,” Oz told guest host David Asman who was filling in for Dobbs who was self-quarantined.
“I think social distancing and the aggressive steps taken by leaders in all levels of government…will show benefit,” he added.
“I was impressed that the president put a timeline out, arguing that Easter would be a nice time to come around,” Oz said, referring to Trump’s comments during a virtual town hall on Fox News Tuesday.
“I’d love to have it open by Easter, okay? I would love to have it open by Easter. I will tell you that right now,” Trump said from the White House Rose Garden, looking ahead to the end of the recommended 15-day period of social distancing.
“It’s such an important day for other reasons, but I’ll make it an important day for this, too,” the president added. “I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter.”
Health experts, some inside his own administration, have continued to push back on rushing to re-open the country for business amid fears that the coronavirus will continue to spread past the more than 55,000 confirmed cases in the U.S. and more than 800 deaths.
“What do you think about that? Do you think we could hit that note at Easter, that’s when we could begin to reopen businesses and such?” Asman asked Oz about the president’s projection.
“Well, it’s a good time for a resurrection, right? Oz quipped.
“It sure is,” Asman laughed.
“I think medically we’ll have a pretty good idea,” Oz continued.
“You know I used a metaphor when I asked the president about that, because I was curious what would happen if it didn’t work out well. But in surgery, and I’m a surgeon, a good surgeon can tell when the surgery went well, which is what we’re going through right now in these two weeks. And he can tell when the patient can go home, which again, in theory, President Trump was arguing could be Easter,” the host of the Daytime Emmy Award-winning “The Dr. Oz Show” said.
“But a great surgeon goes one step further and they know when we have to readmit a patient when there’s a problem. So, as long as we have a game plan for dealing with a slippage, if we go backwards, then I think we can be more aggressive and start to loosen up the reins on America,” Oz added.
The Columbia University professor also added that he got “goosebumps” over the combined efforts of professionals and experts to battle the pandemic, noting the “remarkable capacity of America to mobilize.”
“I wish it did not require a crisis for us to do this, but this is reassuring,” he said.
Stanford biophysicist Michael Levitt, the Nobel laureate who predicted the slowdown of coronavirus cases in China, foresees an optimistic outcome for the United States.
“What we need is to control the panic,” Levitt said, adding, “we’re going to be fine,” he said in a recent interview, contending that the data does not support the catastrophic predictions of months – and even years – of upheaval as well as millions of deaths.
