The U.S. economy is teetering and many American families reeling as a result of the response to the Chinese virus COVID-19, as more and more people begin to question if the cure is going to be deadlier than the disease.
Even President Donald Trump is saying that we “cannot let the cure be worse than the problem.”
With the hair-on-fire liberal media over-hyping the pandemic and pushing folks to the edge of panic, and the U.S. Congress contemplating a massive economic stimulus measure that threatens to blow up the balance sheet — IF they can set aside partisan bickering — the only thing missing in the equation is common sense.
And that’s where conservative commentator Matt Walsh steps in.
With civil liberties disappearing faster than toilet paper, Walsh took to Twitter to say that instead of quarantining the entire population, and in the process, shutting down the economy, which may very well have irreversible consequences for many, why not focus on those who are most vulnerable and step up testing to better identify who has the virus.
A massive effort here would cost far less than the current approach, and would allow those who are healthy to provide for themselves and their families instead of having to depend on the government for their sustenance.
Walsh tweeted: “I’m not an expert but why wouldn’t this work: -open the economy up, let young and healthy people work and feed themselves and their families -quarantine nursing homes -tell other especially at risk people to remain home for now -test aggressively and quarantine the infected.”

In a pair of follow up tweets, Walsh expanded further on his logic.
“You don’t have to tell me that young people can get it. I know. But the hospitalization rate for the young is low enough that they shouldn’t overrun the hospitals. Especially if we keep the elderly isolated,” he said. “Also if most people are working then it would be much easier for the government to provide financial relief to at risk people who still rely on an income.
Common sense would suggest that by isolating those who are most vulnerable, either because of age or medical condition, will put less of a burden on society and keep the economy humming along.
Unless the goal is to not allow the economy to perform, which some skeptics are now beginning to wonder about — a failed economy and the abject poverty that will come with it may assure a higher death toll than the virus.
One thing is certain, the people can only be restrained for so long. Voluntary cooperation will soon end as patience is exhausted and economic suffering ramps up.
As Candace Owens tweeted, human nature will ultimately prevail — unless squashed under the heavy thumb of government.
“Just went on a run and saw scores of people hanging out in the park, playing soccer, etc,” Owens tweeted. “It’s almost as if government CANNOT REGULATE HUMAN BEHAVIOR WITHOUT TOTALIARIANISM & we’ve learned this lesson from EVERY SOCIETY IN HUMAN HISTORY, but let’s keep blaming western leaders.”

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that getting honest, reliable information from the media, as everything seems to be presented with an agenda these days. Reporters are more motivated by political agendas these days than journalistic integrity.
Deaths in the U.S. attributed to coronavirus are below 500 as of this writing, which is quite a contrast to the restrictions currently in place.
Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
It probably would work. But what we are experiencing is really not really about the coronavirus. It’s about control , manipulation, martial law. This is a litmus test.

Welcome aboard Matt – about time. The most at risk, should be told the risks and should be advised to quarantine. Along with their health care providers. Family shouldn’t visit at risk people unless tested and confirmed safe. It’s the only rational approach

Seems like this should be the plan in another week or two at most. The economic fallout of holding this quarantine out for 12 weeks would be catastrophic.

Because destroying the economy & bringing government overreach was the purpose.
They got people to panic and ensure mass hysteria & now the government has run with it.

I’m thinking the same. One more week (max) to ramp up med supplies, incl respirators & ventilators and re-purposing med facilities and staff. Also could transition by region/hot spot.
A FAILED ECONOMY CAN NOT DEFEAT A PANDEMIC.
We MUST get back to work.

Some areas can probably do this safely. Some, like NY city may need to be locked down for awhile. Why doesn’t each state work with cities to determine? But need lots of testing to tell. Need to keep social distancing/ hygiene. People need to be responsible—many haven NOT been.

yep a lot of people have already said this! Much cheaper to isolate and look after the vulnerable than the entire world.

Completely agree. During this 15 day “pause”, ramp up production of all necessary hospital materials – so they’re ready. Then open up the country, while keeping some of the hotspots locked down until peak subsides.
