Actor Matthew McConaughey shared a message of solidarity and hope in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
The award-winning Texas-born star posted a video message on Tuesday with the caption, “because every red light eventually turns green,” telling his 2.5 million followers that the virus is “an enemy that we all agree we want to beat.”

“I just want to say, in these crazy times that we’re in with the coronavirus, let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Let’s not go to the lowest common denominator and get paranoid. Let’s do our due diligence and take the precautions we need to take care of ourselves and those of us around us,” McConaughey said.
“Right now, more than ever before, we’re more dependent on each other than we ever have been,” he added.
“We have an enemy in coronavirus that is faceless, that is raceless, sexless, nondenominational, and bipartisan, and it’s an enemy that we all agree we want to beat — we want to beat and we’re going to beat,” McConaughey continued.
Noting the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak on people’s lives and the economy, the 50-year-old actor offered some hope, saying there’s a “green light on the other side of this red light that we’re in right now.”
“I believe that green light is gonna be built upon the values that we can enact right now. Values of fairness, kindness, accountability, resilience, respect, courage,” he said, going on to suggest the pandemic may have the unexpected effect of bringing the world together.
“If we practice those things right now, when we get out of this, this virus this time might be the one time it brings us all together and unifies us, like we have not been in a long time.,” McConaughey concluded. “So yes, let’s see if we can make some lemon that we’re in the middle of. Turn a red light into a green light.”
Other Hollywood A-listers have also posted messages of encouragement in the wake of the pandemic that has infected more than 200,000 people worldwide, with a death toll passing 8,000 by Wednesday, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
Legendary comedian Mel Brooks appeared in a much-loved video message with his son Max who gave some tips about social distancing and other precautions.

Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson announced they had tested positive for coronavirus last week while working on a movie in Australia.
“We Hanks will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!” the “Toy Story” actor shared on social media.
The couple continued their self-quarantine following nearly a week of treatment in a Queensland hospital, with Hanks posting updates for his fans.

Actor Idris Elba also tested positive for coronavirus, telling fans in a Twitter video that he had no symptoms but was staying isolated.

In a follow-up live video, the 47-year-old British star said he was doing well and that talking to fans had helped keep him “optimistic.”
Meanwhile, McConaughey sparked plenty of virtual applause on Twitter for his words of hope and encouragement.
