New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sparked a backlash for his grandstanding criticism of the federal government’s response to the coronavirus crisis.
The Democrat governor called out the “chaos” of Washington’s handling of the pandemic, essentially calling for the country to turn from its founding principles by urging coordinated action on a national level.

“You look at the countries who have handled this, I don’t care if it’s China or South Korea, if it’s Italy. They were all handled by national leadership,” Cuomo said in a press conference on Monday. “This is a national problem. It can not be done in a piecemeal method. You need federal parameters to stop the national patchwork of density reduction closings.”
Cuomo decried the “hodgepodge” efforts in the country saying it “feeds the feeling that the country is out of control.”
“There is no clear direction, there is no clear path. California is doing this. New York is doing this. Illinois is doing this. It’s the same problem across the country. The density may shift temporarily. But it is the same problem. Let the federal government say, these are the guidelines…rather than having a scramble of every local, state government trying to figure it out on its own.”
The Democrat leader contended this made “no sense” and is “counter-productive” because it “allows state shopping.”
“In other words you don’t like the rules in New York, well, then you go to Pennsylvania. You don’t like what California is doing, then you can come to New York. That’s the last thing you want!” he said, sparking social media backlash.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the federal government should impose a uniform response to stop “state-shopping”
he doesn’t seem to understand that federalism and decentralization of power are fundamental to America
if he wants top-down authoritarian control he should go live in China

Cuomo called for the Army Corps of Engineers to “work with states to help us build temporary facilities.”
“And if you don’t do it, you know what is going to happen,” he continued. ” … You have people on gurneys in hallways. That is what is going to happen now if we do nothing.”
✋?No @NYGovCuomo!
‼️We DO NOT need the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT telling each individual state what to do!
Every state is DIFFERENT and our great @POTUS @realDonaldTrump UNDERSTANDS that‼️#LESSfedgovernmentcontrol pic.twitter.com/ftphKxAFA0

Although he praised President Trump and his administration for help at one point, he was soon back to criticism over the federal government’s alleged lack of coordination.
“I want federal action. You can’t have one state taking actions that are different than other states,” Cuomo said.
“This is like the reverse federalism,” Cuomo said. “This is a national pandemic, and there are no national rules.”
Ironically, Cuomo sent Trump an open letter on Sunday in the New York Times, calling for the “federal government to get out of the testing business and allow the states to take it over.”
In a coordinated effort with the governors of New Jersey and Connecticut, Cuomo announced the collective forced closings of bars, restaurants and movie theaters in the areas.
“Our primary goal right now is to slow the spread of this virus so that the wave of new infections doesn’t crash our healthcare system, and everyone agrees social distancing is the best way to do that,” Cuomo said in a statement. “This is not a war that can be won alone, which is why New York is partnering with our neighboring states to implement a uniform standard that not only keeps our people safe but also prevents ‘state shopping’ where residents of one state travel to another and vice versa.”

The media’s role in boosting the narrative by Cuomo and other Democrats was on full display as the New York lawmaker continued his call for nationalizing the coronavirus efforts. ABC’s “Good Morning America” saw anchor George Stephanopoulos give the liberal governor free rein to push his plan on Monday.
“I know you’ve spoken with the president about this. Has he accepted your argument?” Stephanopoulos asked, wondering if what Trump was doing was “enough.”
Cuomo repeated his talking points in an uninterrupted rant on giving the federal government total control, saying “this federal government has to get more engaged. There’s been no country that has handled this that has not nationalized it.”
Fox News host Steve Hilton slammed the New York Democrat in a tweet, saying “if you want top-down authoritarian control go live in China.”

And Fox News viewers slammed the network for giving Cuomo airtime to showboat during his Monday press conference.
Am I dreaming or is Fox News putting Andrew Cuomo on the air like he’s the President?
A minute of listening to him is 59 seconds too much.

I listened to him until I realized that he was just going to keep droning on forever. Apparently, he’s now against States Rights and wants centralized Federal governance. Doesn’t want people “shopping” States. WTH does that even mean? The world has gone mad. Cuomo paving the way.
