FBI official says Russia seeks to sow seeds of division in US; Dems and media ‘tools’ latch on

The closer we get to the November election, the more we hear about alleged Russian interference.

Speaking at an election security conference on Capitol Hill, David Porter, an assistant section chief of FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, accused Russia of running brazen operations to spread disinformation in the lead up to the election, hoping to watch us “tear ourselves apart,” the Associated Press reported.

What’s more, Democrats are now demanding sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin over 2020 meddling.

According to Porter, Russia is attempting to exploit lines of division and sow doubt about the integrity of U.S. elections and the ability of its leaders to govern effectively.

“The primary objective is not to create a particular version of the truth but rather to cloud the truth and erode our ability to find it, creating a sentiment that no narrative or news source can be trusted at all,” Porter said, according to the news agency.

Skeptics may counter that this is the exclusive domain of Democrats and their “fake news” media allies.

As the Associated Press noted, Porters remarks follow a closed-door House briefing — see Democrats — that “focused attention on the possibility that Russia could work to aid President Donald Trump’s reelection.”

The irony being that after the briefing, a U.S. intelligence official told Fox News there is no evidence to suggest Russia is making a “play” to boost Trump’s reelection bid.

The anonymous source said that the intelligence community’s top election security official, Shelby Pierson, appears to have overstated the formal assessment of Russian interference in the election when testifying before the House Intelligence Committee.

The New York Times and CNN both ran unverified stories on Russia wanting to help Trump, as did the Washington Post.

There was also reports that Russia was trying to help Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2020. The Democratic front-runner confirmed that he was briefed by intelligence officials about this, although conspiracy theorists on the left claim Moscow wants to elevate Sanders because he’s an easy mark for Trump.

In addition to Russia, there are concerns about China, North Korea and Iran being involved in covert methods.

But U.S. officials see China as more of an aggressive threat in regard to espionage and theft of intellectual property, in the quest to better its own economic standing, the AP reported.

“To put it simply, in this space, Russia wants to watch us tear ourselves apart, while it seems that China would rather manage our gradual economic decline over the course of generations,” Porter said.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and fellow Democratic Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Robert Menendez of New Jersey, are calling on the administration to impose sanctions for “all those determined to be responsible for ongoing elections interference,” to include Putin, according to the AP.

Ironically, while Schumer and Co. play political games and suggest Republicans are colluding with Russia, investigative reporter Sara Carter appeared on Fox News to say Putin does not need agents sowing discord because Democrats and Never Trumpers prove to be effective tools.

She said all Putin has to do is plant a little seed and these two entities do all the work.

“What they don’t see is that they are the tools of Russia. Not the Republicans, but the Democrats are the tools of Russia. The Never Trumpers are the tools of Russia,” Carter said.
