Catherine Herridge confirms official has no proof Russia’s trying to help POTUS in 2020, ‘overstated’ facts

Despite recent reports, there is no evidence to suggest that Russia is making a “play” to boost President Donald Trump’s reelection bid.

That’s according to what a U.S. intelligence official told Fox News on Sunday.

The source said the intelligence community’s top election security official, Shelby Pierson, appears to have overstated the formal assessment of Russian interference in the 2020 election when testifying before the House Intelligence Committee earlier this month, the network reported.

Pierson reportedly told lawmakers that Russia was interfering in the election with the goal of helping Trump get reelected.

Even CNN reported the U.S. “does not have evidence that Russia’s interference this cycle is aimed at reelecting Trump.”

“The intelligence doesn’t say that,” one senior national security official told CNN. “A more reasonable interpretation of the intelligence is not that they have a preference, it’s a step short of that. It’s more that they understand the President is someone they can work with, he’s a dealmaker.”

CBS investigative reporter Catherine Herridge tweeted as much on Friday.

The New York Times and CNN both ran unverified stories on Russia wanting to help Trump, according to Fox News. The Washington Post also ran a story, and there was a report that Russia was trying to help Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2020. The Democratic front-runner confirmed that he was briefed by intelligence officials about this.

(Conspirators on the left claim Russia is helping Sanders because he’s seen as easy prey for Trump.)

Investigative reporter Sara Carter took it a step further during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Next Revolution,” explaining that those quick to regurgitate claims about interference are the real “tools of Russia.”

“This is what we keep hearing over and over again from Democrats and Never Trumpers like Linda Chavez,” Carter said. “They keep bringing up like Vladimir Putin has this grand scheme, that he has people in place inside the Republican Party, he has people in place inside the Democratic Party.”

She then said Putin doesn’t need his own agents because these two entities are doing all the work for Russia.

“It must be a celebration,” she added, saying all Russia has to do is plant a little seed.

“What they don’t see is that they are the tools of Russia. Not the Republicans, but the Democrats are the tools of Russia. The Never Trumpers are the tools of Russia,” Carter said.

“And that’s why President Trump is doing the right thing by blowing it off, ignoring them and not even paying attention to anything that could be coming out of Vladimir Putin’s mouth or out of Russia,” she concluded. “He just lets it go, the American people are going to vote.”

With all the black marks against the intelligence community because of the actions of those at the top, One America News Network’s Liz Wheeler had a fitting question.

“Tell me again why we should trust the intelligence community?!” she tweeted, before noting in follow up that her assessment wasn’t targeting rank and file agents.
