U.S. intelligence officials briefed Sen. Bernie Sanders about a month ago that “Russia is attempting to help his presidential campaign,” according to a report Friday in the Washington Post.
A reporter asked Sanders why that news only now came out and he implied that it was a political hit job, timed to coincide with the Nevada caucuses …

Earlier on Friday, Sanders admitted to reporters that his campaign was briefed about the Kremlin’s efforts several weeks ago and claimed that Russia’s intention is to foment division, “chaos,” and “hatred in America.”
“It was not clear what role they’re going to play,” he said. “We were told that Russia, maybe other countries, are going to get involved in this campaign, and look, here’s the message to Russia–stay out of American elections.”
“And what they are doing,” added Sanders, “by the way, the ugly thing that they are doing, and I’ve seen some of their tweets and stuff, is they try to divide us up. That’s what they did in 2016 and that is the ugliest thing they are doing — is they are trying to cause chaos, they are trying to cause hatred in America.”
Dem rival Mike Bloomberg’s campaign quickly reacted to the news, tweeting: “This is a no-brainer for the Russians. They either nominate the weakest candidate to take on their puppet Trump, or they elect a socialist as President.”

Before the Post’s news came across the wire, President Trump told rally-goers in Las Vegas that Democrats are trying to start another witch hunt, referencing a New York Times report about a briefing on the matter to lawmakers and a tweet by disgraced former CIA Director John Brennan’s on Thursday.

“I see these phonies, the do-nothing Democrats,” said Trump. “They said today that Putin wants to be sure that Trump gets elected. Here we go again. Aren’t people bored?”
“I was told a week ago, they said, you know, they’re trying to start a rumor,” the president continued. “It’s disinformation. That’s the only thing they’re good at. They’re not good at anything else. They get nothing done.”
President Trump also pointed out what would seem to be obvious–that the best choice for the former USSR would be the socialist Bernie Sanders in the Oval Office. “That Putin wants to make sure I get elected. Listen to this. Doesn’t he want to see who the Democrat’s gonna be? Wouldn’t you rather have, let’s say, Bernie?” Trump asked. “Wouldn’t he rather have Bernie, who honeymooned in Moscow?”
FBI Director Christopher Wray told the Senate Judiciary Committee last month that Russia was continuing to “engage in malign foreign influence” on American elections with the aim of creating division and discord, “and to generate controversy, to generate distrust in our democratic institutions in our electoral process.”
The facts are clear. There’s no debate.#BernieKnew the Russian government wants to help him win.
