Tucker warns of Bloomberg’s shady & unprecedented campaign to buy the presidency, ruling class ‘eager’ to oblige him

Fox News host Tucker Carlson blasted 2020 presidential contender Michael Bloomberg for not having any ideas to run on and for essentially trying to buy his way to the White House.

Carlson accused the billionaire of running a “cynical” political campaign during his monologue on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Monday, assessing the current state of the Democratic presidential contest which he said is shaping up to be “a two-man contest” between Bloomberg and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“Bloomberg has shot to above 15 percent nationally in the polls from nowhere essentially. He’s suddenly leading the race in the critical Super Tuesday state of Florida,” Carlson said, after noting that Sanders is not hiding that he “wants to turn this country into a comprehensive welfare state.”

“So, what is Mike Bloomberg running on? That’s a trick question, actually,” he added. “Bloomberg isn’t running on anything, not because he doesn’t have ideas.”

“He’s not trying to convince voters of anything. He’s not making arguments or working to change their minds on policies they care about,” Carlson continued. “He’s trying to buy them and hence, the presidency.”

The Fox News host pointed to the more than $417 million Bloomberg has spent on advertising, comparing it to the $40 million spent by Sanders after noting that it is “the single most cynical political campaign ever run in this country” as the billionaire is”trying to subvert our democracy with cash.”

“Bloomberg’s spending is like… a tsunami breaking over our political system. When the waters recede, there’s nothing left. It’s been flattened and wiped clean by the weight of Mike Bloomberg’s wealth,” Carlson said. “Bloomberg is the tallest figure on the landscape, the only one left upright. That’s his plan. He’s all but admitted that’s his plan.”

Carlson went on to accuse the three-term mayor of New York City of doing “whatever it takes” to secure the nomination, even if it means disavowing his former views, including the controversial “stop and frisk” police policy which he defended until recently.

“Without even pausing, Bloomberg grovels… and attacks his own legacy. Why’d he do that? Because, he doesn’t care. Whatever, they’re only words,” Carlson said.

“He’ll do whatever it takes. Now, they say politicians are ethically flexible. Of course they are, but this is different. There’s something ominous about it,” he continued.

“Bloomberg can seamlessly change his core beliefs because he doesn’t think his beliefs are relevant to the outcome of this race,” Carlson added. “Only his wealth matters.”

Carlson contended that Bloomberg could give millions away or spend it on the presidential race but “still be five times as rich as Donald Trump.”

“With that money, Bloomberg can suffocate all opposition and seize power. A ruling class which worships money above all sees nothing wrong with this, they are equally too eager to help Bloomberg with it,” he warned, bringing up the 2016 presidential campaign when Trump ran on “ideas that large numbers of voters actually liked whether or not they liked him.”

“But Bloomberg can’t be bothered with selling ideas or with a platform. He doesn’t care what the public thinks, that’s why,” Carlson said, adding that the 2020 hopeful thinks he can win by “overwhelming voters with his money.”

“This is the nightmare scenario that campaign finance reform activists used to tell us about. They were right about one thing: Our system has been vulnerable to people like Michael Bloomberg for a long time. He’s just the first one who’s actually trying to do it,” Carlson continued.

“You should be alarmed by his campaign for president,” he warned. “Democracy doesn’t break when voters choose unwisely. They sometimes do. Democracy collapses when what voters want becomes irrelevant.”
