President Trump says he’s praying for NASCAR racer Ryan Newman, who was hospitalized in serious condition after suffering a horrifying crash during the final lap of the Daytona 500 on Monday night.
Trump tweeted: “Praying for Ryan Newman, a great and brave NASCAR driver.”
Newman — like many in the NASCAR community — is a Trump supporter.

Newman was in the final lap and appeared to be on his way to winning the Daytona 500 when his car was nudged against the wall.
The car then flipped in the air and landed on its roof after catching fire and rolling over several times.
Spectators looked on in shock as officials and medics ran onto the race track to cut Newman out of his smoking vehicle.
While he was mid-air, Ryan’s car was hit by another vehicle that was going 200 miles an hour. It’s actually a miracle that Newman is not dead.
Denny Hamlin went on to win the race.

After the frightening crash, NASCAR tweeted this update: “Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center. He is in serious condition, but doctors have indicated that his injuries are not life-threatening.”
Thousands of people have since barraged social media with their prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery.

The day before, President Trump made history by becoming the first U.S. president to take a lap around the Daytona International Speedway in his presidential limo, “The Beast.”
Trump, who was the grand marshal for the race, was the second-ever president to deliver the iconic command, “Gentlemen, start your engines!” at the 100,000-seat racetrack. The first was former president George W. Bush, who attended the Daytona 500 back in 2004.
President Trump greeted the crowd before the race, saying: “NASCAR fans never forget that no matter who wins the race, what matters most is God, family and country.”
Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, Brad Parscale, doubled-down on that statement, saying: “NASCAR fans are patriots who support the president in huge numbers, so we definitely wanted to communicate directly with them about Keeping America Great during the Great American Race.”
Trump was a big hit with NASCAR racers and fans, who touted how down-to-earth and friendly he was. Veteran racer Clint Bowyer said he was thrilled to meet the President.
Bowyer tweeted: “The man walked in, shook all our hands, took selfies, and whatever we asked of him. I judge people on how they treat me and others I’m with, and that’s why I really appreciated meeting POTUS. Thanks for coming to Daytona 500.”

Hailie Deegan, an 18-year-old racing phenom, sported a huge smile while posing for a photo with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
Before the race, Donald Trump Jr. had promised Hailie that he’d help her meet the President after she tweeted that her goal was to get her helmet signed by POTUS.
