A New York City thief who has been arrested 139 times for pickpocketing subway commuters, jumping turnstiles and other mayhem is thrilled over new bail reform ushered in by Democrats in the city.
With Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio on the campaign trail stumping for socialist Bernie Sanders, subway crook Charles Barry is laughing in their faces.
“Bail reform, it’s lit!” Barry said, according to the New York Daily News. “It’s the Democrats! The Democrats know me and the Republicans fear me. You can’t touch me! I can’t be stopped!”
That meaning there are few consequences for his actions.
“I’m famous! I take $200, $300 a day of your money, cracker! You can’t stop me!” the crook yelled to a Daily News reporter last week as he was being taken to Manhattan Central Booking, where he reportedly would be held for about 24 hours before being released.

Barry latest charges reportedly include snatching money out of the hands of people trying to use MetroCard machines.
Not that he likely has to pay himself.
Under de Blasio’s leadership, cash bail has been eliminated on many offenses, and when suspects are released from jail, they’re being given a free Metro card to ride the subways, two debit cards with $25 on each, and a burner cell phone — it’s not clear how this may apply to repeat offenders.
As the Daily News reported, Barry is arrested and released, often not showing up for courts dates. He is then arrested for that offense, only to be release again — it’s like a revolving door of nonstop comedy.
Except for his victims.
His latest arrest was the 139th in Barry’s “career,” as the paper described a history of breaking the law. According to records, he has been convicted of six felonies and 87 misdemeanors, plus 21 missed court hearings.
Barry, 56, who has been in state prison six times, has been arrested on six occasions since the city’s bail reform laws took effect Jan. 1, the Daily News reported.
Staten Island City Councilman Joe Borelli appeared on Fox & Friends on Sunday and mentioned Barry while talking about the failures of bail reform.
“People are laughing at us,” Borelli said.
The Republican is pushing for a ballot referendum on the issue.
“We’re trying to push the legislature to put it on the ballot,” Borelli explained. “If this is so great, as the bail reform advocates, the pro-criminal advocates tell us, sell it to the [New York] public. Let us decide whether we rather have criminals getting out of jail or criminals in jail.”
Actor James Woods compared Barry to Willie Horton, who was featured in a 1988 ad by supporters of George H.W. Bush in a contest against Democrat Michael Dukakis.
Horton, a black man, was a convicted murderer who raped a white woman after he was furloughed from prison under a Massachusetts program in place when Dukakis was governor.

New York City’s Sergeants Benevolent Association also weighed in on Barry.
The SBA declared war on Mayor de Blasio in response to two NYPD officers being shot last weekend, proclaiming that they have no respect for the Democrat mayor.
“NYC subway thief thanks Democrats after his 139th arrest, release: ‘Bail reform, it’s lit!'” the association tweeted. “For all the victims, soon to be victims & those who fear becoming victims criminals now thank elected officials for Bail Reform. Time to vote them out!”
