Furious Jake Tapper hurls personal insults at Rush Limbaugh for viral comment about a gay president

CNN’s Jake Tapper came to the defense of Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg by smearing conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Tapper outrageously accused Limbaugh of a “decade’s long record of bigotry” during a segment on “The Lead” Thursday, attacking him over comments he made about the former South Bend, Indiana mayor.

“Just days after being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Rush Limbaugh, who has a decade’s long record of bigotry against blacks, women, and the LGBTQ community, attacked Pete Buttigieg because Buttigieg is gay,” Tapper said, referring to the honor bestowed on Limbaugh by President Trump during his State of the Union speech earlier this month.

Tapper went on to play an audio clip from Limbaugh’s radio show in which he remarked on Buttigieg kissing his husband on stage following the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.

“How is this going to look – a 37-year-old gay guy kissing his husband on stage next to Mr. Man, Donald Trump? What’s going to happen there?” the radio host asked.

“There may be some Democrats who think that’s exactly what we need to do, Rush. Get a gay guy kissing his husband on stage to ram it down Trump’s throat and beat him in the general election,” he added. “Really? Having fun envisioning that.”

“Buttigieg has not responded yet,” Tapper said, adding that 2020 hopeful Joe Biden “defended Buttigieg saying Pete Buttigieg who served in the Navy and Afghanistan has honor and courage.”

The CNN host followed with a shot at Limbaugh over his personal life.

“We should point out Buttigieg is married to one man,” Tapper said. “I don’t even know what number spouse Limbaugh is up to.”

At a town hall in Las Vegas on Thursday, Buttigieg said, “I’m proud of my marriage I’m proud of my husband.” The 38-year-old, who has been married to his husband, Chasten, since 2018, has not responded directly to Limbaugh’s comments.

Biden attacked Limbaugh during an appearance on “The View,” calling  it “part of the depravity of this administration.”

“I mean, my God,” the former vice president said. “Pete and I are competitors, but this guy has honor, he has courage, he is smart as hell.”

Trump responded, “I think so,” when asked if he thought the country could vote for a gay man to be president.

“I think there would be some that wouldn’t. I wouldn’t be among that group, to be honest with you,” he said during an interview with Geraldo Rivera on Cleveland’s Newsradio WTAM.

“It’s a miscalculation as to where the country is at,” Sen. Lindsey Graham told The Associated Press, reacting to Limbaugh’s remarks. “I think the country is not going to disqualify somebody because of their sexual orientation.”

The South Carolina Republican was asked if Limbaugh should be allowed to keep his Medal of Freedom in light of the comments about Buttigieg.

“Well, my God. Free speech still exists,” Graham replied.

Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said she was “just going to leave all that alone” when asked what she thought of the remarks, which she had not heard.

“He may disagree, as I do, with their policy positions, but the question is what their qualifications are, not other issues,” Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said of Limbaugh.

As many voiced their opinion on Limbaugh’s comments, others on social media targeted CNN’s Tapper for his mud-slinging.
