A retired NYPD detective was brutally punched in the face at his own birthday party because the attacker — a woman suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome — thought his red hat was a MAGA cap.

In reality, Daniel Sprague — who was celebrating his 50th birthday — was wearing a red cap that said: “Make Fifty Great Again.”

The assault occurred outside a Nashville club while Sprague was talking to friends. They had gathered to celebrate his milestone 50th birthday.

“A female came up from behind me, spun me around, and punched me in the face,” Sprague told News4. “And then she grabbed my hat off my head and was yelling, ‘How dare you!”

Sprague was stunned by what unfolded, but he filed a police report the next day.

Daniel Sprague worked at the New York Police Department for 20 years and retired from the force in 2009. Sprague is a Trump supporter but said he would never attack a Bernie supporter that way.

“I love Trump, but I wouldn’t hit someone who had a Bernie hat on,” said Sprague. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I wasn’t an Obama fan but if he walked into a place where I was, I would show him and the office respect.”

New York City Councilman Joe Borelli tweeted his disgust that his friend was assaulted by a deranged leftist clearly suffering from pathological Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Sprague later recounted the incident on Facebook and said he’s awaiting feedback on his police report from Nashville detectives. He wrote:

“Other then the unfortunate incident it was an excellent B-Day weekend. The wife surprised me with a beautiful weekend in God’s country, Nashville TN, with a bunch of family and friends to help celebrate this milestone birthday.

While there she picked some nice birthday hats and shirts for me to wear like a shirt saying “Making America Great Since 1970” a black shirt with an American flag on it as well as a red hat with “Make FIFTY Great Again“.

So while in the the bar “The Stage” (great bar with great security and very professional) a misguided soul possibly not alone, who I’m assuming was not very literate, spun me around, punch me in the face and grabbing my hat while she was yelling “how dare you” leading me to think she thought it was a MAGA hat.

The bouncers immediately led us out opposite exits and when I stated I would like to press charges they informed me she left. The next morning I filed an official report with Nashville PD and I am awaiting to hear back from the Detectives on where they stand with the investigation.”

Sadly, this latest incident is one among a long string of violent attacks against Trump supporters and against police officers.

Last weekend, a Trump-hater named Gregory Timm plowed his van into a pro-Trump voter registration tent in Jacksonville, Florida.

Timm told police that he did that because he hates President Trump and “someone had to take a stand” against his supporters.

Meanwhile, police officers and other law enforcement agents (like ICE officers) continue to be viciously assaulted around the country amid the Left’s escalating anti-police rhetoric.
