‘Jerry. Jerry. Jerry.’ Trump revels in Nadler upstaging ‘Shifty’ for final word on impeachment

From President Donald Trump’s perspective, it doesn’t get much better than to see his two chief Democratic antagonizers clash on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Taking to Twitter, the president shared a video of Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., rushing to the lectern — a feat to behold — ahead of Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the Democrats’ lead impeachment manager, to give a closing argument in the final moments of the Q & A phase of Trump’s Senate trial.

As Nadler usurps Schiff’s ability to have the final word, the House Intel Committee chairman can be heard urgently calling out, “Jerry. Jerry. Jerry!”

“Nadler ripped final argument away from Schiff, thinks Shifty did a terrible job. They are fighting big time!” the president tweeted.

Chief Justice John Roberts had just read the last question from Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., asked House managers for any final thoughts before the trial adjourned for the evening.

Nadler chose to comment on being able to call additional witnesses, outside of those House Democrats have already called — this being the same cabal insisting that they have an ironclad case against the president.

“This is a trial and a trial, as any 10-year-old knows, we should have witnesses,” he said. “That’s why all these distractions, that’s why the president’s people are telling you to avoid witnesses because they are afraid of the witnesses.”

On that note, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is believed to have the votes needed to avoid calling any further witnesses, as the swing vote on a motion for new witnesses, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., announced late Thursday he will vote no.

Alexander, who is planning to retire at the end of this term, said there is “no need for more evidence,” and while he was critical of Trump’s actions, he slammed the effort by Democrats as a “shallow, hurried and wholly partisan impeachment.”

The GOP senator also said voters should render the final verdict on Trump’s actions in the 2020 elections, which is just over 9 months away.

As for the Schiff-Nadler fracas, in what may be the tweet of the day, a social media user opined: “Imagine being so bad at your job you’re replaced by Jerry Nadler…”
