Hillary Clinton came under heavy fire by Democrats who strongly condemned her disparaging remarks about Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Hours after her critique of the senator from an upcoming documentary was published, the failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee made a joke – but didn’t apologize – after members of her own party called her out and Sanders himself appeared to dismiss her saying that “nobody likes him” and that “nobody wants to work with him.”

“On a good day, my wife likes me, so let’s clear the air on that one,” Sanders told a reporter on Tuesday. “Secretary Clinton is entitled to her point of view. My job today is to focus on the [Trump] impeachment trial.”
When the Vermont senator was asked why his former opponent was “still talking” about the 2016 election, he replied, “That is a good question. Ask her.”
Questioned about the comments she made on Sanders in an upcoming Hulu series entitled “Hillary,” Clinton not only did not walk back her criticism of him as “a career politician,” she slammed his supporters as well.

Democrats, including 2020 presidential contenders Tulsi Gabbard and Andrew Yang, found Clinton’s criticism of her former 2016 rival divisive and childish as well as being counterproductive as the party looks at voting in Iowa to begin a few weeks.
“It’s time to grow up, you know? This isn’t high school,” Gabbard said while campaigning in New Hampshire.
“We’re talking about real challenges that our country needs to address and the need for real leadership to focus on them — not on what’s going on in Washington and the schoolyard cliques or whatever else it may be,” the Hawaii Democrat told WMUR-TV in Manchester.

“There are real issues that people are struggling with and they’re wondering, ‘Why are our leaders not working for us?’ This is why I’m running for president, to change that,” Gabbard added.
“For her to come back and, you know, say that nobody likes Bernie does not seem like a very helpful message,” businessman and 2020 contender Andrew Yang told CBS News when asked about Clinton’s remarks.

Robert Reich, former labor secretary during President Bill Clinton’s administration, pushed back on Clinton’s claim that Sanders has not accomplished anything noteworthy as a senator.
“He was an effective legislator, in fact, one of the most effective legislators,” Reich said in a video. “Because the more you work behind the scenes and don’t try to push yourself out there and don’t try to get the limelight, the more effective you can be — which ironically invites the complaint from some people that he was ineffective because he was not in the limelight. He was, behind the scenes, enormously effective.”

Political analyst and former Hillary Clinton adviser. Peter Daou, found the “broadside” against Sanders to be “profoundly wrong.”
NO, HILLARY CLINTON, NO.
I have diligently avoided attacking @HillaryClinton as I embraced #NotMeUs.
But this broadside against #Bernie is profoundly wrong. Especially since it echoes the erasure of his diverse coalition by pushing the “bro” narrative.https://t.co/JUoDI5c9SZ
— Peter Daou (@peterdaou) January 21, 2020
Daou and wife Leela Daou addressed the negative comments in an essay for The Guardian.
“Hillary Clinton perpetuates the false narrative that Bernie Sanders supporters are largely a gang of raging ‘bros’ who spend all day trolling his opponents online,” they wrote. “For Clinton to come out rhetorical guns blazing against Sanders weeks before primary voting begins reflects misplaced priorities on the part of the Clinton camp and an unfortunate willingness to amplify destructive myths about Sanders and his supporters.”

As the dust began to clear from Clinton’s bitter assessment of Sanders, the former first lady took to Twitter to offer a comment poking fun at those who called her out.
“I thought everyone wanted my authentic, unvarnished views!” she wrote.
I thought everyone wanted my authentic, unvarnished views!
But to be serious, the number one priority for our country and world is retiring Trump, and, as I always have, I will do whatever I can to support our nominee.

“But to be serious, the number one priority for our country and world is retiring Trump, and, as I always have, I will do whatever I can to support our nominee,” she added, without retracting her criticism.
Her non-apology earned her no support on Twitter.
People don’t want to hear anything from you, that’s the lesson of today.

I’m thankful for you, Hillary.
You lit a fire under me & inspired me to spend 2 years of my life working to defeat you.
I wouldn’t be where I am today, in part, if it weren’t for you.
So, thank you. #Trump2020
