Fitness drill sergeant Jillian Michaels posts throwback photo of herself at 175 lbs. to inspire

Days after renowned personal trainer Jillian Michaels criticized obese rapper Lizzo over her weight, thus setting off a firestorm of criticism from “fat pride” activists who argue that everybody can’t be fit and healthy, the ultra-fit celebrity shared a photo to social media in what appeared to be an attempt to prove otherwise.

Shared to her Instagram account, the photo from her past depicted Michaels when she weighed 175 pounds and stood five feet tall — and thus boasted a 34.2 BMI.

“Here’s me at 5’0 tall and 175 lbs. If I can do it – anyone can. Share your story…,” she wrote for the caption.

A post shared by Jillian Michaels (@jillianmichaels) on

As of Saturday morning, the post boasted over 25,000 likes and countless comments from men and women alike sharing their own weight-loss stories.

While Michaels didn’t specify a reason for her post, some assumed it was tied to her unintentional feud with the rapper Lizzo.

During an interview with BuzzFeed earlier this month, host Alex Berg brought up Lizzo to praise her for “preaching self-acceptance” and exposing the world to bodies that aren’t “celebrated.”

Micheals responded by questioning why Lizzo was being praised for her weight. Lizzo reportedly weighs over 300 pounds and stands about five feet, ten inches tall, giving her a BMI of roughly 43.

“Why are we celebrating her body?” she said. “Why does it matter? That’s what I’m saying. Like, why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t going to be awesome if she gets diabetes. I’m just being honest. I love her music, like, my kid loves her music, but there’s never a moment when I’m like, ‘I’m so glad she’s overweight.'”

“Why do I even care? Why is it my job to care about her weight? It’s not about saying that I don’t respect her, I don’t think she’s awesome, I absolutely do, but I also would hate to see her get sick.”

The full interview may be seen below:

The remarks provoked widespread backlash and criticism from “fat pride” activists, left-wing Hollywood celebrities and Lizzo herself.

“If my name is in your mouth, so is my [genitals], b—-. Enjoy the flavor!” the rapper reportedly said in an Instagram story.

Her supporters were equally uncivil in their comments.

Look (*Extreme language warning):

Michaels’ detractors appear to believe that Lizzo’s weight is none of their business. To be clear, the BuzzFeed host brought it up, not her. Furthermore, she’s a personal trainer, and personal training involves fitness, health, and nutrition.

Regardless, Michaels initially responded by releasing a statement acknowledging that “we are all beautiful, worthy and equally deserving” but doubling down on her claim that “there are serious health consequences that come with obesity.”

Speaking with Inside Edition this week, she went ahead and tripled down when asked to respond to accusations that she’s a “fat shamer.”

“I would say this: Number one, I was an overweight kid, so think of me as though we’re in AA [Alcoholics Anonymous] and I’m the person who’s been sober 20 years,” she replied.

“So I’m going to be your best sponsor. I understand this thing from every angle. … My job is to say, ‘This is the information. This information is backed by science.'”

Fact-check: TRUE.

“Obesity is a serious concern because it is associated with poorer mental health outcomes, reduced quality of life, and the leading causes of death in the U.S. and worldwide, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note.

Listen to her remarks below:

As for Lizzo, she appears wholly uninterested in addressing any potential health complications. Instead, she continues to promote her weight and BMI as signs of excellence and betterment.
