Don’t do it! Bannon sounds alarm to Trump on Pelosi’s SOTU ploy: Wait until you are acquitted!

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said after “slow-walking” the process of sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate, Speaker Nancy Pelosi invited President Trump to deliver the State of the Union so she can drive the media narrative.

He also had some advice for the president on how to respond.

“Tell Nancy Pelosi when you deliver [the articles] and we have a trial, and after I’m acquitted, I will come to have the State of the Union. Not until then,” Bannon said in an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Host Maria Bartiromo referenced a comment made by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., that we just witnessed the worst attempted coup to take down the president since Abraham Lincoln.

This prompted Bannon to insist that Trump must fight back hard.

“This is nullification project to nullify his presidency,” he said. “This is the trial of the century. It is about the crime of the century. It has to be big. This is not C-SPAN3. This is going to be on global television.”

He said Trump needs to have some of his staunch defenders from the House involved in the Senate trial, such as Reps. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

Bartiromo countered that this may not happen.

“These fire-breathers need to be there, we can’t worry about the decorum of the Senate,” Bannon replied. “This is about the direction of the United States of America. It is about the peace and prosperity of the world. Donald Trump’s policy is working and this is why [Pelosi] slow-walked this.”

Bannon said Trump should go big and call for witnesses.

“President Trump has a great saying: ‘no games.’ This is all game-playing by the Democrats. It’s got to be brought to an end,” Bannon said. “They forced her this week to deliver them. I think this trial — he ought to go big. He ought to demand witnesses. There is no witness on the other side of [John] Bolton and [Mick] Mulvaney. There is nothing they can say that will be a big deal.”

He stressed Trump “has to protect the office of the presidency for future presidents,” saying there is nothing that can be revealed that won’t be offset by the actions of the cabal that came after the president.

“This is the crime of the century. This is an attempted coup on a sitting president,” Bannon said. “A sitting president who turned out to be right. You know who says he’s right? The kids in Tehran. Kids in Beirut, in the streets trying to throw off Hezbollah. Kids in Hong Kong, being gassed and taking rubber bullets. Voters in Taipei, who yesterday threw out the Chinese communist party with a landslide. Who all wave American flags and all have signs of Donald Trump being a superhero. On the streets of the world.”

Bannon attributed this to Trump taking a stand and saying no more appeasement.

As for gamesmanship, Bartiromo referenced the fact that last year Pelosi used the State of the Union to go at the president.

“This is deja vu all over again,” she said.

The timing behind Pelosi’s actions has another purpose, according to Bannon.

“They have waited for two weeks for two things. They’re trying to get more evidence, they’re running around to get more evidence. They are afraid the guns are going to be turned on them and they will be put on trial because they don’t have a case,” he said.

“The other is she wants him to have a State of the Union where there is uncertainty.”

Again, Bannon stressed that the president should wait until the trial has taken place.

“After it is all over, after he has been exonerated, then he goes before the world, at the State of the Union and lays out the state of this union and the state of the world.”

Bartiromo asked Bannon if he has told Trump any of this and he replied that he has been talking about it on his radio show, adding the president will “think this through.”

As for tactics, he said Trump should use the Senate trial to put his antagonizers on trial for attempting a coup against a democratically elected president.

In addition to the whistleblower, Bannon named former CIA director John Brennan.
