Note: It was earlier stated that Representative Ilhan Omar is from Michigan. This was an error that has been corrected.
Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar took to Twitter on Wednesday to express her displeasure at President Donald Trump’s plan to move forward on Iran.
In his speech following Iran’s launch of 15 missiles that resulted in no American casualties, he proposed that the country “appears to be standing down.” But this didn’t mean that Trump was ready to put their history of terrorism behind him, as he suggested enacting “powerful” economic sanctions that would undoubtedly have a long-lasting impact on the Iranian regime.
It was this point that didn’t sit too well with Omar, who accused the president of “economic warfare.”
“This makes no sense,” she tweeted. “Sanctions are economic warfare. They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran. You cannot claim to want de-escalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”

Perhaps she would prefer Trump return to taking out the most powerful members of their military?
It didn’t take long for her fellow Twitter users to remind her who the real enemy of this conflict is:
Another reason you should be expelled from Congress.
Iran has been a U.S. enemy for 40 years. If they want to live in the 5th century it’s on them.

When you are such a shill for the Iranian regime, nothing this Administration will ever do shall suffice as a ‘measured response.’

Ilhan woefully neglects the fact that missiles were launched only a few hours ago.

Yes it does make sense. You can’t be that naive.
And if you are that concerned about the status of the Iranian people, I’d like to get your response to the following:https://t.co/ozkPeDOTAV https://t.co/MwmGnQ3QLb— איל Eyal (@Eyal89856202) January 8, 2020

BizPac Review reported on Trump’s comments, which followed Iran’s launch of more than a dozen missiles at the US-Iraqi Al-Asad airbase on Tuesday. He promised that as long as he is our president, “Iran will never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.”
‘US is ready to embrace peace’: Flanked by power players, Trump declares Iran ‘seems to be standing down’ https://t.co/Up1eGQsz3V

In a move that should please Omar and the rest of her anti-war friends on the left, Trump appeared to take a more reconciliatory tone, addressing the people and leaders of Iran by saying: “We want you to have a future, and a great future, one that you deserve – one of prosperity at home and harmony with the nations of the world. The United States is ready to embrace peace with all who seek it.”
The catch? Trump says “Iran must abandon its nuclear ambitions and end its support for terrorism” in order to pursue that peace. While it currently remains to be seen whether the nation will be willing to come to the negotiating table under those conditions, the situation certainly isn’t made easier with members of Congress like Omar, who publicly undermine the President of the United States as such a critical time.
With friends like those, who needs enemies?
