Liberal Democrats genuinely hate the free market …
Take New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. On Wednesday he tweeted a New York Post story about a Domino’s pizza franchise in Midtown Manhattan that capitalized on New Year’s Eve festivities by doubling the prices on its pies.
“The [store] was hawking pepperoni, ham and cheese pizzas for $30 — nearly double what regular $14.49 large cheese pie costs at Domino’s,” the Post reported.
To be clear, the paper didn’t portray the move as bad. If anything, the paper gave the “enterprising” store kudos for playing it smart while meeting furious demand and pleasing tourists/visitors in nearby Times Square.
“He is our Santa,” Amit Zanwar, a New Jersey resident who traveled to Times Square without food for the evening’s festivities, graciously said to the Post. “He came a little late [for Christmas], but we were happy.”
“It’s absolutely worth it. It was hot. It seems like it just came out of the oven. If he comes back, I will buy some more.”
Yet here’s how Comrade de Blasio portrayed it:
Jacking up your prices on people trying to celebrate the holidays? Classy, @dominos.
To the thousands who came to Times Square last night to ring in 2020, I’m sorry this corporate chain exploited you — stick it to them by patronizing one of our fantastic LOCAL pizzerias. pic.twitter.com/rO6I9oYIku

Free-marketing-hating socialists never learn, do they?
In response, social media users pilloried him.
Look:
People voluntarily spending $30 on a pizza they want = exploitation
People involuntarily paying up to 9% of their income for a corrupt government = ?

It’s adorable how you pretend to care about people hanging on to more of their money when it’s not going into govt coffers by force.

You’re an idiot
Do you realize the extra time and effort it took to get pizzas delivered in the massive Times Square crowds?
— SETH WEATHERS (@sethweathers) January 1, 2020
Do you have any idea how much work/TIME it must be to find the person who ordered the pizza in that crowd?
Do you have any idea of the effect of your minimum wage increases?
Do you know anything about business?— Joey Saladino (@JoeySalads) January 1, 2020
Liberals never fail to demonstrate complete misunderstanding of every aspect of economics. It’s not just @Dominos making a little more money. It also serves to limit demand to the quantity that they could actually supply. How the hell could this fool be mayor of anything? https://t.co/mjpdqVv3RR

How much does a bottle of water cost at the airport controlled by the city that you’re systemically destroying? https://t.co/XOqY1FSAgF

This is the kind of ignorant nincompoop Democrats regularly elect. @NYCMayor has no idea how businesses work. https://t.co/rcZpGFK6mF

Like every other left-wing Democrat, de Blasio seems to hate businesses that thrive in America’s free-market economy. He meanwhile appears to understand nothing about the fundamentals of economics. In that regard, he’s not alone.
And so he and state Gov. Andrew Cuomo have shown no hesitation about lobbing as many regulations and taxes on local businesses as humanly possible — all under the guise of stopping businesses from “exploiting” their customers (or employees).
The result has been an exodus of businesses and people from New York.
“Several companies are relocating from the Empire State, numerous businesses have announced they are closing shop altogether citing economic reasons, and a new poll shows a third of New York residents plan to move because they can’t afford to stay,” the Washington Free Beacon confirmed last spring.
As of 2020, Domino’s still remains in New York, though only God knows how long it’ll continue to tolerate the state’s left-wing insanity.
In a statement to Fox Business Network, a Domino’s spokesperson blasted the mayor on Thursday for his tweet.
“Every store in [New York City] is owned by a local resident,” the spokesperson said. “Every employee is a local New York resident. Those stores provide jobs to thousands of his fellow citizens. With his comments, the mayor is suggesting that New Yorkers who own or work at a franchise are ‘lesser than’ those who don’t.”
But the statement will most likely fall on deaf ears. To the increasingly radical Democrat Party, it’s either their way or the highway.
The irony of this whole debacle is that de Blasio usually dislikes the Post because of its unabashed criticism of him and his disastrous policies.
“Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post has been attacking me,” he whined during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” last spring.
“Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post has been attacking me,” @BilldeBlasio says on @Morning_Joe now. He’s in Iowa.

Like other non-left-wing outlets, the Post has been willing to point out the realities of the mayor’s policies and their destructive aftereffects. In fact, the paper’s editorial board ran a piece in July requesting that Cuomo fire him.
“Bill de Blasio does not care about New York City,” the piece read. “He does not care about its people. He does not care about how it’s run. He does not care about you or your taxes, creating jobs or improving lives. All Bill de Blasio cares about is Bill de Blasio. And so, for the good of the city, Gov. Andrew Cuomo needs to remove the mayor from office.”
Six months later, Comrade de Blasio is now twisting one of the Post’s stories to score points against his and every other liberal Democrats’ enemy: Successful businesses.
Nice.
