Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s vow to coordinate with the White House on impeachment strategy sent Democrats and their liberal minions into a meltdown.
The Kentucky Republican was blasted by Democrats and members of the left-wing news media for “coordinating with the defense counsel” in responding to the impeachment articles against the president that were voted on by the House Judiciary Committee.
“Everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with White House Counsel. There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can,” McConnell said on Fox News’ “Hannity” this week, discussing the strategy for a Senate impeachment trial.
“We know how it’s going to end,” McConnell said. “There’s no chance the president is going to be removed from office.”

The left has already denounced the “sham” Senate trial before it has even begun, criticizing McConnell over reports that he may not call witnesses and will move quickly to have the Senate vote on the two articles of impeachment – obstruction of Congress and abuse of power – that were voted on by the House panel.
CNN showed its true biased colors again with a parade of Democrats on the air who were up in arms over McConnell’s remarks.
Rep. Ro Khanna called the senator’s comments “outrageous,” arguing that the Constitution gave the Senate the “independent authority to exercise checks on the presidency.
“For McConnell to be basically saying that the President is going to set the terms of the trial, that the President is going to get to decide the timetable and who is called,” the California Democrat said. “Our founders would be rolling over in their graves.”

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi shook his head at McConnell’s remarks, declaring that this was a “violation of the separation of powers.”
“At the end of the day, Mitch McConnell is a juror, and so for the juror to be coordinating with defense counsel doesn’t make any sense,” the Illinois Democrat told CNN.

Colorado Democrat Sen. Michael Bennet brought his outrage over to Fox News where he declared it was “incredible that the majority leader of the United States says he’s going to take his cues from the president’s lawyers” and “do the president’s bidding.”

Despite the hysteria from Democrats and the left, it seems McConnell’s actions are not as “outrageous” as they contend.
The Senate Democratic leader during President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle, told CNN he did not personally talk with the president ahead of that impeachment trial though he acknowledged that his staff did.
“There are so many moving parts,” he said, adding that his choice to not speak to Clinton “was probably a little myopic.”
“That’s the way it is now,” Daschle said of McConnell’s remarks, “it’s different.”
Axios reporter Jonathan Swan shared Daschle’s comments as well.

The former senator had to clarify his comments however as he reiterated that his staff was, in fact, in contact with the president at the time.
