Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz had nothing but praise for President Donald Trump’s historic executive order aimed at anti-Semitism.
The lifelong liberal who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 spoke at a White House Hanukkah celebration on Wednesday, telling the president he would be “remembered by history for all time” after signing the order.

“For 61 of my 81 years, I have spent at universities – all over the country and all over the world – there is no more important event in those 65 years to turn universities away from being bastions of hatred and discrimination than this executive order being signed today,” the Constitutional Law expert said.
“It is a game-changer! It will go down in history as one of the most important events in the 2,000 battle against anti-Semitism,” Dershowitz added. “Thank you Mr. President, you did a great, great job…You will be remembered by history for all time for having signed this very important order.”
Trump’s order took aim at anti-Semitism, targeting college campuses, by interpreting Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include protection against anti-Semitism with the Department of Education empowered to withhold federal funding from any college or educational program found to be in violation.

Despite his liberal history, Dershowitz has been a vocal defender of the president and is possibly under consideration as part of his legal team.
“I have advocated that there needs to be one other attorney that’s added to the mix for the president, and that is Alan Dershowitz,” Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said on the House Freedom Caucus podcast on Wednesday. “I think he’d be great to come in, get Alan Dershowitz in to be part of that defense team.”
The move would be sure to cause some controversy as Dershowitz has come under scrutiny for his role as part of the legal team that defended the now-deceased accused child trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Virginia Roberts Giuffre has alleged in court that, as a victim in Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, she had sex with Dershowitz, who has consistently denied the claims.

Wednesday’s White House event, which included first lady Melania Trump, the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, came just days after an attack at a Kosher supermarket in a Jewish neighborhood in Jersey City where four people were killed including a police officer, and two shooters who were identified as members of the anti-Semitic “Black Israelites” group.
The president addressed the shooting during his remarks at Wednesday’s event.

The executive order aims to combat anti-Israel sentiments and the various divestment movements on college campuses.
