Following the release of the Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report Monday, President Donald Trump pithily summarized his interpretation of the IG’s findings in an eye-opening statement to reporters.
“This was an overthrow of government — this was an attempted overthrow — and a lot of people were in on it, and they got caught; they got caught red-handed!” he declared from the White House.

Released Monday afternoon, Horowitz’ report simultaneously found that the FBI’s investigation of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign was predicated on legitimate evidence (i.e., not political bias) but that many of the allegedly non-politically biased actors who’d participated in the investigation had made “fundamental errors” in their pursuit of the truth.
However, the president believes these “fundamental errors” are proof unto themselves that the entire operation was rotten, despite the IG’s claim otherwise. Attorney General Bill Barr and U.S. Attorney John Durham have indicated that they feel similarly.

Attorney General Bill Barr on damning IG Horowitz Report –
IG shows FBI “launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken.”

“The IG report just came out, I was just briefed on it and it’s a disgrace what’s happened with respect to the things that were done to our country,” the president’s full statement to the press Monday began, as seen in the video above.
“It should never again happen to another president. It’s incredible, far worse than I would have ever thought possible. And it’s an embarrassment to our country, it’s dishonest, it’s everything that a lot of people thought it would be but far worse.”
Despite Horowitz’s ultimate conclusion — which some propagandists in the media have chosen to report by itself, sans any information about the “fundamental errors” — some of these errors were damning in their nature:

6)IG finds 17 separate problems with FISA court submissions, including FBI’s overstatement of Steele’s credentials. Also the failure to provide court with exculpatory evidence and issues with Steele’s sources and additional info it got about Steele’s credibility.

It occurs to me that at this point, I’ve read of many many MANY dozens of “mistakes” by FBI/DOJ officials and every single one of them was in a direction harmful to Trump. What are the odds?

“So I’m going to get some very detailed briefings, but it’s a very sad day when I see that, a very sad day when a lot of people see that,” the president continued. “They had no nothing. It was concocted. You can say what you want, but that was probably something that’s never happened in the history of our country.”
“They fabricated evidence, and they lied to the courts, and they did all sorts of things to have it go their way. And this was something that we can never allow to happen again.”
Fact-check: TRUE.
FBI officials did fabricate/doctor evidence, according to renowned investigative journalists Sean Davis and Mollie Hemingway.
“The 476-page report from Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz found that the FBI falsely claimed to the FISA Court not only that Carter Page was a Russian agent, but also falsely claimed that an unnamed intelligence agency had told the FBI that Page was ‘not a source’ in their efforts to surveil and curtail Russian intelligence efforts,” they have confirmed.
Carter Page was a key U.S. informant against a Russian spy in 2013. He worked directly with a U.S. intel agency, which told the FBI about his work.
The FBI didn’t just hide that from the FISA court. They doctored the evidence to make Page look dishonest. https://t.co/1oJsmJVeR0

“The report actually, and especially when you look into it and the details of the report are far worse than anything I would have even imagined, what they were doing and what they would have done if I didn’t make a certain move … because it would have been even worse, if that’s possible, and they might have been able to succeed,” the president’s statement continued.
“This was an overthrow of government — this was an attempted overthrow — and a lot of people were in on it, and they got caught; they got caught red-handed! And I look forward to the Durham report, which is coming out in the not-too-distant future. He’s got his own information, which is this information plus, plus, plus. It’s an incredible thing that happened, and we’re lucky we caught them.”
But will those guilty of perpetrating these “fundamental errors” actually be held accountable? That remains to be seen, though Barr and Durham’s attitude toward the IG report suggests that some form of true justice is indeed forthcoming.
