Democrats use weekend impeachment rehearsal session to taunt President Trump

A core group of self-important Democrats used the weekend on Capitol Hill to lay-out and practice their articles of impeachment song-and-dance routine. During a break on Sunday, several took to Twitter to heckle the president.

Representatives Eric Swalwell, Pramila Jayapal, David Cicilline, and Joe Neguse leaned into a selfie posted by Swalwell with the barb “While you’re tweeting at us, Mr. President, we are working to uphold the Constitution and keep you accountable.”

The tweet was in response to a post by President Trump in which he bashed Fox News for providing air time to the extreme left. “Don’t get why @FoxNews puts losers on like @RepSwalwell (who got ZERO as presidential candidate before quitting), Pramila Jayapal, David Cicilline and others who are Radical Left Haters?” He wrote in a Sunday tweet. “The Dems wouldn’t let @FoxNews get near their bad ratings debates, yet Fox panders. Pathetic!”

Cicilline also used the selfie image to tweet: “@realDonaldTrump, while you’re busy tweeting insults, we’re busy working to honor our oath of office to protect and defend the constitution and safeguard our democracy. @JoeNeguse”

The closed-door rehearsals were reported on by several media outlets, to include Fox News’ Chad Pergram …

Explaining the need for the weekend rehearsals, Swalwell told the New York Times,“We’re trying to avoid open-mic night.” The congressman from California and a failed 2020 presidential candidate is a member of both the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees.

The hearing is anticipated to last for several days, with lawyers for the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees kicking things off by presenting their case for impeachment to Congress. Republicans are to be permitted equal time for rebuttals. Barring unforeseen developments, a vote by the House on the articles of impeachment is expected by the end of the week in order to send the whole political traveling circus on to the Republican-controlled Senate.

Congress is scheduled to break for the Christmas holiday on Friday, so the Senate will take up the impeachment charade in January.

Even with the long practice sessions, it’s unclear whether the Democrats’ political plot to take down the president will play any better in the televised hearings than the disaster the effort has been so far in the process.

On Saturday, Trump told reporters that more and more Americans are coming to believe that the impeachment drive is a “hoax.”

“The impeachment thing is a total hoax. The numbers have totally swung our way. They don’t want to see impeachment, especially in the swing states. They’ve swung our way. I’ve never seen a swing like this because people realize it’s a total hoax.”

Compelling drama during the hearing is not the expected result this week … rather, more of the same transparent, well-worn lies and fabrications are likely, with continuing dismal TV ratings.
