Actor Anthony Hopkins declared he is “not going to participate” in political discussions and revealed his thoughts on why those in the entertainment industry should not be asked for their political opinions.
The 81-year-old star with six decades of acting experience told fellow actor Brad Pitt about his views during a talk for Interview magazine, ahead of the release of his new Netflix movie, “The Two Popes,” for which he has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category.
In the midst of a Hollywood culture filled with liberal actors ready to provide, at times unsolicited, views about the state of politics, Hopkins stands out as someone not too taken with his own self-importance.
“People ask me questions about present situations in life, and I say, ‘I don’t know, I’m just an actor,'” he told Pitt.
“I don’t have any opinions,” he added. “Actors are pretty stupid. My opinion is not worth anything. There’s no controversy for me, so don’t engage me in it, because I’m not going to participate.”
Pitt agreed with Hopkins.
“I feel the same. I don’t care,” he said. “I’m glad things are always evolving and changing, and complaining about it won’t do any good. You work with what you have.”
Hopkins, an Academy Award-winning Welsh actor, director and producer, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1993 for his service to the arts, revealed that he is “not a great fan of going to movies anymore,” though he admitted to seeing Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
“I’m not great at going to see the green screen films,” he said. ”I’ve been in a few of them and they’re fun, but they don’t grab me. I’m a bit too old for that.”
He reflected on his life, his accomplishments and the art of being an actor.
“It’s important to do it for the passion, the sheer enjoyment, the life force, but to not take it too seriously,” he said.
And while the interview never revealed what Hopkins’ thoughts are on the latest political topics, his fellow – often younger – Hollywood actors have taken a decidedly different stand, not getting a clue that they should just focus on their talents.
Actor Mark Ruffalo recently displayed this refusal by the Hollywood elite to stick to their wheelhouse by vocally endorsing Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and decrying capitalism.
“I proudly and humbly throw my support to Bernie Sanders. He will make an excellent and historic president in the very moment we are ready for it and need it most,” the “Avengers” actor said in a video released by the 2020 Democratic candidate.

The 52-year-old actor is worth about $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, thanks to the very system he wants to dispose of.
It seems Hopkins, who reportedly has a net worth of $160 million dollars, was right about some actors being “stupid,” and many on social media couldn’t agree more.
