Trump’s new Bloomberg nickname has Elizabeth Warren on the defense

President Donald Trump bestowed a new nickname upon Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg hours after announcing the Trump 2020 campaign would no longer issue press credentials to his news outlet.

The president targeted the former New York City mayor as well as The New York Times on Monday, declaring that  “their hatred & bias is so great they can’t even see straight.”

“Mini Mike Bloomberg has instructed his third rate news organization not to investigate him or any Democrat, but to go after President Trump, only,” Trump tweeted about the billionaire.

“The Failing New York Times thinks that is O.K., because their hatred & bias is so great they can’t even see straight. It’s not O.K.!” he added.

The New York Times stepped in to back Bloomberg News on Monday after Trump’s reelection campaign announced that it would not be granting press credentials to the outlet’s reporters in light of the Democrat’s decision to step into the 2020 presidential race.

“We condemn any action that keeps quality news media from reporting fairly and accurately on the presidency and the leadership of the country,” New York Times’ executive editor, Dean Baquet, said in a statement.

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale explained Monday’s decision by pointing to Bloomberg News’ own stated policy that, with the former New York City mayor’s announced candidacy, his eponymous outlet would “continue our tradition of not investigating Mike” and do the same for the other Democratic contenders.

“Bloomberg News has declared that they won’t investigate their boss or his Democrat competitors, many of whom are current holders of high office, but will continue critical reporting on President Trump,” Parscale said. “As President Trump’s campaign, we are accustomed to unfair reporting practices, but most news organizations don’t announce their biases so publicly.”

He added that the campaign would decide on a “case-by-case basis” whether or not to “engage with individual reporters or answer inquiries from Bloomberg News” until the outlet “publicly rescinds its decision.”

Bloomberg News fired back with a statement from its Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait who insisted Trump has always been treated fairly by the outlet.

“The accusation of bias couldn’t be further from the truth,” he said. “We have covered Donald Trump fairly and in an unbiased way since he became a candidate in 2015 and will continue to do so despite the restrictions imposed by the Trump campaign.”

Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s Democratic rival Sen. Elizabeth Warren said there was no connection between Trump’s new nickname and her use of the phrase “little billionaires” during a campaign speech.
