A Florida widower in a MAGA shirt robbed a bank, but then asked the teller to take back some of the money because it was more than he had demanded. In his “robbery” note on a bank deposit slip, Sandy Hawkins, 73, wrote that he hoped he would get caught.
Hawkins entered a Wells Fargo bank in Boca Raton on Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m., according to a probable-cause affidavit obtained by WPLG-TV.
During his bumbling robbery, Hawkins asked the bank teller for $1,100. When the teller gave him $2,000 in $100 bills, he “told him it was too much and again demanded $1,100.”
The teller then counted out $1,100 and gave it to Hawkins through the window. The MAGA-shirt wearing senior citizen quietly left the bank.
The next day (on Nov. 19), Palm Beach County police went to Hawkins’ home after being tipped off by a manager at a nearby sports bar who identified him as the bank robber.
Police said that when confronted at home, Sandy Hawkins did not resist arrest and told them, “I will make this easy.”
Hawkins then handed the police the note he gave the teller during his bank robbery the previous day. The note read: “Give me $1,100. Now, No Alarms, Hope to get caught.”
At his arraignment on November 20, Hawkins looked confused and frail. The judge noted that this was not a violent offense, and Hawkins’ attorney pointed out that he has no prior criminal history.
Hawkins’ former landlord told reporters that Hawkins is an “affable” guy and said he “probably reached some kind of breaking point” when his wife died in 2013.
While committing a crime is inexcusable, it’s hard not to feel sympathy for a lonely widower who seems to have lost his purpose in life after his wife’s tragic death.
Sadly, Hawkins’ bumbling ineptitude is reminiscent of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who’s continuing his unbroken chain of epic gaffes.
During yesterday’s Democratic primary debate, Biden, 77, stammered and stuttered his way through an incoherent response. It was painful to watch.

However, Biden seems to be doing better than fellow Democrat Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
RBG refuses to retire at age 86 despite dealing with multiple health issues. Last year, Ginsburg insisted that she had another five years left on the bench.
“I’m now 85,” Ginsburg said in July 2018. “My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, stepped down when he was 90. So think I have at least five more years.”
Ginsburg, a liberal, was appointed by Bill Clinton in 1994. Ginsburg previously suggested that she would have retired in 2018 if Hillary Clinton had won the presidency.
Ginsburg is now digging in her brittle heels amid left-wing hysteria that President Trump will get to appoint three justices to the Supreme Court when she retires.
Meanwhile, both Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Joe Biden seem to be doing better than failed Democratic presidential candidate Eric Swalwell.
This week, Swalwell may have pooped his pants during a live interview with MSNBC blowhard Chris Matthews.
