Grassley concerned if Horowitz’s report isn’t released next week, asks ‘is someone at FBI or DOJ tying IGs hands?’

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has no appetite for delays as the nation awaits Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report on alleged FISA abuses in the run up to the 2016 election,

Taking to social media, he raised the possibility that if the report does not come out next week as expected, that someone in the DOJ or FBI may be intentionally stalling the release.

“If FISA Inspector General Horowitz report doesn’t come out next week when they said it would then I will be very disappointed & left to wonder WHAT THE GAME IS?? Is someone at FBI or DOJ tying IGs hands??” Grassley tweeted.

Grassley, 86, chairs the Senate Finance Committee, after leaving the Senate Judiciary Committee chairmanship, which went to Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. — Graham just announced that he’ll hand the chairmanship back to Grassley in the next Congress.

The return was reportedly requested by Sen. Grassley, who has more seniority on the Judiciary Committee than Graham.

In an October tweet, Grassley suggested that there may be a “deep state” plot to “deep six” the report on alleged FISA abuses

“All of the delays and excuses why the Horowitz IG FISA report isn’t public yet after several months of anticipation of its issues leads me to the suspicion it’s going to be “deep six” by the deep state,” he tweeted.

Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, revealed in a Sept. 12 letter that Horowitz informed Attorney General William Barr that he had completed his FISA abuse investigation, according to the Washington Examiner.

Horowitz was looking into the circumstances behind the FISA application and three renewals that allowed the FBI to begin surveillance on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page — the applications relied on the unverified Fusion GPS dossier paid for by Democrats and the Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Among those likely targeted by Horowitz’s probe are former FBI Director James Comey, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, then-Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates.

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said in an appearance Monday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that a delay could mean a broadening investigation.

He added that the government figures named above may be found “culpable” by the report.

“I’m concerned for people like McCabe, Comey, even Rod Rosenstein… Sally Yates — anybody who signed off on one of those FISA warrant applications,” Biggs opined. “I believe they’re culpable in some way.”

In October, Horowitz told Senate and House lawmakers he was “nearing completion” of the process of finalizing his report, Fox News reported.

The draft report “concerns sensitive national security and law enforcement matters,” Horowitz said in a letter, adding that he anticipated “the final report will be released publicly with few redactions.”

Citing anonymous sources, investigative reporter Sara Carter reported the outcome of Horowitz’s much anticipated report will be “damning,” and “is alleged to contain several criminal referrals.”

More from Sara Carter:

It is also expected to reveal that the FBI knew that Steele was leaking to the media but then used those media reports as separate evidence in their request for a FISA warrant, known as circular intelligence reporting.

Horowitz’s report is also going to contain evidence that the FBI handled Hillary Clinton’s campaign differently than that of President Trump’s campaign. It will reveal that she had received a detailed debriefing from the FBI on foreign attempts to make contact with her campaign. It will reveal the deep bias and animus those FBI officials had toward the Trump campaign.
