81-yr-old Jane Fonda keeps getting arrested

When actress Jane Fonda pledged earlier this month to protest climate change by standing outside the U.S. Capitol Building in D.C. every Friday through rain, shine, impending apocalypse or even a lengthy criminal record, she apparently meant it.

So despite being arrested outside the Capitol Building on Friday, Oct. 11, she returned to the scene exactly one week later for another dose of activism.

And just like last time, she wound up in police custody again, albeit with a companion this time: fellow Hollywood star Sam Waterston, best known for his role as District Attorney Jack McCoy on the now-defunct NBC TV series “Law & Order.”

According to the Associated Press, the 81-year-old actress best known for her treachery during the Vietnam War intends to keep this up in perpetuity.

“Fonda said she plans to get arrested every Friday to advocate for urgent reduction in the use of fossil fuels,” the AP reported on Saturday.

The actress admitted though that getting arrested in 2019 — she’s been getting arrested for decades — poses some new challenges.

These days, “they use white plastic things on your wrists instead of metal handcuffs, and that hurts more,” she reportedly said.

Oh, the horror

“The only problem for me is I’m old,” she continued, adding that she faced difficulty getting into the police cruiser during her first arrest a week earlier because she was handcuffed with her hands behind her back and “had nothing to hang on to.”

Including common sense and logic, it would appear …

This time, the officers reportedly handcuffed her with her hands in front of her. Aww.

According to reports, the protest attended by Fonda and Waterston centered on demanding that Congress implement socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s radical “Green New Deal.”

“People say the Green New Deal is radical. What is radical is climate disruption!” Waterston reportedly said at the event.

It’s not clear where he’s actually read the proposal …

As seen here, it calls for eliminating air travel, combustion-engine vehicles, nuclear energy, fossil fuel energy, and meat. It also calls for guaranteeing everybody a job (assuming they want one), in addition to free education, free healthcare, free housing, etc.

Earlier this summer, AOC’s then-chief-of-staff Saikat Chakrabarti admitted point-blank that the proposal is a “change-the-entire-economy thing,” not just a “climate thing.” In other words, it’s a RADICAL plan to transform all of American society into a socialist utopia.

“It is both rising to the challenge that is existential around climate, and it is building an economy that contains more prosperity. More sustainability in that prosperity — and more broadly shared prosperity, equitability and justice throughout,” he said.

More so-called “social justice,” to be exact …

What specifically spurred Fonda and Waterson to action were the rants of mentally ill teen climate change zealot Greta Thunberg.

“As Greta Thunberg said, ‘Our House Is On Fire’, and we need to act like it,” Fonda has written in a letter published on Fire Drill Fridays, a website dedicated to the protests.

“Inspired by Greta and the youth climate strikes as well as Reverend Barber’s Moral Mondays and Randall Robinson’s often daily anti-apartheid protests, I’ve moved to Washington, D.C. to be closer to the epicenter of the fight for our climate,” she said.

“Every Friday through January, I will be leading weekly demonstrations on Capitol Hill to demand that action by our political leaders be taken to address the climate emergency we are in. We can’t afford to wait,” the actress added.

The website also includes a list of demands, the core one being that America “transform our economy to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2030 and phase out all fossil fuel extraction through a just and equitable transition, creating millions of good jobs.”

In fairness to the actress, she does at least try to practice what she preaches.

“I drive an electric car, I recycle, I eat less meat, I get rid of plastic and so forth,” she admitted to the AP.

A large number of climate change zealots, particularly those among her peers in Hollywood, make no such efforts.

It’s not clear whether Waterston also tries to practice what he preaches.

The actress added that her end goal is to inspire more people to speak out and protest against climate change and presumably in favor of the radical “Green New Deal.”

“We’re trying to encourage people to become more active, across the age spectrum,” she said.

While it’s not clear whether the plan is working, the latest protest and its arrests — including that of Waterston — did provoke an amusing reaction from Sen. Ted Cruz.
