Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey unveiled new rules that will prevent users from retweeting, replying to, or liking tweets posted by “world leaders” that violate the social media monopoly’s terms of service.
Twitter’s “new rules” concerning world leaders was enacted in response to rabid calls by leftists like Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris to ban President Donald Trump from Twitter.
In a blog post, Twitter explained: “We want to make it clear today that the accounts of world leaders are not above our policies entirely.”
Twitter listed examples of tweets that violate its terms of service, including:
- Promotion of terrorism.
- Threats of violence against an individual.
- Posting private information, such as a home address or personal phone number;
- Posting intimate photos or videos of someone that were produced or distributed without their consent;
- Engaging in behaviors relating to child sexual exploitation; and
- Encouraging or promoting self-harm.
Twitter then said that in cases “involving a world leader, we will err on the side of leaving the content up if there is a clear public interest in doing so.”
However, the social media platform left open the possibility that it might delete a world leader’s tweet if enough people complain and moan about it.
That is a dangerous slippery slope to censorship if Twitter caves too easily to leftist whining.
On Oct. 1, Democrat Kamala Harris sent a letter to Jack Dorsey, demanding that he deplatform and silence the leader of the free world.
The irony of an American presidential candidate — whose job is to defend the U.S. Constitution — urging a tech company to violate the First-Amendment rights of a sitting president is mind-boggling.
Kamala Harris’ rival, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, defended President Trump. Gabbard said Trump should not be banned because he has the same right to free speech as every other American does.
Gabbard said: “Freedom of speech is something that is an important, foundational right in our democracy. We can’t just cancel, shut down, or silence those who we disagree with.”
MSNBC opinion host Chris Hayes spoke to Kamala Harris after the Democratic primary debate last night (Oct. 15) and asked why Harris kept nagging Elizabeth Warren to join her in demanding that Trump be banned from Twitter.
“Why does that matter?” Hayes asked. “Of all the things, why that?”
Harris deflected by saying: “Ask the whistleblower. Ask members of the United States Congress. Ask the people who are prepared to testify about this president’s lawlessness and obstruction of justice.”

To her credit, Senator Warren refused to go along with Harris’ demand to deplatform Trump from Twitter.
Harris then disingenuously insisted that Trump’s tweets “could result literally in the threat to the safety of human beings who are participating in the process of justice.”
Chris Hayes countered that he’s “concerned about the precedent of a private company taking the platform away from the president of the United States or some other elected official.”
Harris stammered: “Free speech does not condone or protect threats to the safety of other human beings.”
Kamala then melodramatically claimed that President Trump endangers people’s lives with his tweets and said he’s like “a two-year-old with a machine gun.”
