She doesn’t have the votes? Pelosi meets with Dem caucus on formal impeachment vote

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi must know lawmakers, like most Americans, do not support Democrats in their efforts to impeach President Donald Trump.

The California Democrat confirmed to reporters on Tuesday that “at this time,” an official vote on the House impeachment inquiry was not going to be held.

“She doesn’t have the votes,” Fox News host Sean Hannity announced following reports of Pelosi’s comments.

He shared with viewers on “Hannity” Tuesday the list of Democrats in House districts won by Trump in 2016, wondering if the lawmakers would betray their own constituents and “attempt to overthrow the president because of a hoax.”

“Those are the lawmaker who, by the way, will make or break the radical, socialist Democratic Party’s impeachment dreams,” he said. “As of tonight, they are the reason Nancy Pelosi won’t dare hold a vote, because she’s probably going to lose.

Pelosi spoke to reporters about a formal vote during a press conference with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff.

“There’s no requirement that we have a vote and at this time we will not be having a vote,” she said Wednesday, adding some fluff about “seeking the truth” and “upholding the Constitution.”

“The House will have the sole power of impeachment,” Schiff responded to the question on voting, avoiding a direct answer before handing it over to Pelosi.

“And there is no court that’s going to find otherwise,” he said. “I think Republicans know it but they don’t want to discuss the president’s conduct, they would much rather discuss process.”

Several reports confirmed that the Democrat Caucus would not be holding a formal vote and that Pelosi had been speaking with members on Tuesday.

But while Pelosi may be trying to avoid a formal vote on impeachment which would likely expose vulnerable red-state Democrats facing reelection in 2020, Democrats are still plowing ahead with their secret, closed-door hearings.

Schiff effectively acknowledged that the secret hearings are designed to keep Trump and his lawyers in the dark about the proceedings.

“We want to make sure that we meet the needs of the investigation and not give the president or his legal minions the opportunity to tailor their testimony and in some cases fabricate testimony to suit their interests,” the California Democrat told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

And while Democrats control the narrative with closed-door hearings, they also worked a change into the rules by calling the secret interview depositions now, thereby limiting attorneys.

Characterizing the impeachment as a grand jury and blocking the Minority members from issuing subpoenas and questioning witnesses are other tactics Democrats are using in the sham investigation against the president.
