Irishman Shay Bradley, a Defense Forces veteran, was intent on ensuring that those who gathered to bid him a final farewell left with a smile on their faces.
Bradley pulled a memorable prank on family and loved ones when a pre-recorded message was played at his funeral in Dublin — Bradley’s daughter said that it was his dying wish to have it played.
In the message, Bradley can be heard calling out as if he was stuck in his coffin.
“Hello, hello – let me out!” he shouts in the recording, which included the sound of him knocking on the coffin lid.
“Let me out! It’s f—ing dark in here,” Bradley continues, as mourners begin cracking up in laughter.

The daughter, Andrea Bradly, shared a video of the prank on Facebook.
“Always the pranksters, ya got them good Poppabear and gave us all a laugh just when we needed it!! I will love you forever,” read the video caption.
The hashtag #Shayslastlaugh was included.
The video has been viewed over a million times and Andrea left a heartfelt message, explaining how her father, who she called a “legend,” would have been overjoyed at the response.
“Myself and my Family are overwhelmed with the Amazing response and comments we have received regarding my dad’s funeral, he truly is a legend and was the most amazing man!!! He would be overjoyed to know how many smiles and laughs he has given to every one. Thank you all,” Bradley wrote.
She also shared a photo of her father on Twitter, and it could not be more clear that she loved her father dearly.
“Here is a picture of the legend himself. My dad, Shay Bradley. It was his dieing wish that we played this at his funeral,” she tweeted. “What a man…. To make us all laugh when we were incredibly sad….. He was some man for one man…. Love you forever Poppabear #Shayslastlaugh.”

Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter, with Andrea responding to many of the social media users, which may say something about her own character.

This is actually really beautiful. Watched it 3 times & laughed, & thought about how amazing it was for you & family/pals to have one more experience of his humour & personality. Crying a bit because I lost my husband last year but this actually helps me too. He’d have loved it!!

Thank you very much. That’s exactly it, my dad wanted us to leave the cemetery laughing, and to celebrate his life. I appreciate you reaching out. Thanks so much xx

God bless him and you and your family. What a beautiful soul… ♥️?

I’m sorry for your loss, but what a way to go! We’ve all got to go sometime, but to go like that shows he must’ve been a real character. Good luck to you and all your family.
