New Hampshire poll shows presidential front-runner is not even in the 2020 race

Were former first lady Michelle Obama to enter the 2020 presidential race, her political career would begin with her already leading the entire pack in the pivotal swing state of New Hampshire, according to stunning new poll results.

“Today, the Democratic race is a statistical dead heat between Warren (25%), Biden (24%) and Sanders (22%),” pollster R. Kelly Myers of Franklin Pierce University’s Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication announced in a memo Monday.

If Michelle Obama were to enter the race, it would change things dramatically. Twenty-six percent of Democrats would vote for her, making her the new frontrunner.

She’d reportedly nab four points from Warren, four points from Biden and seven points from Sanders.

Read the memo below:

The stunning poll was conducted on behalf of the Boston Herald and speaks strongly to the growing belief among Democrats that the current crop of 2020 candidates lack what it takes to defeat President Donald Trump at the ballot box next year.

“Less than four months before voting begins, front-running candidates are facing urgent questions about their ability to challenge Trump, prompted by a health scare for Sen. Bernie Sanders, an uneven response by Joe Biden to the president’s efforts to tie him to the impeachment inquiry and nagging questions about liberal Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s electability,” the Associated Press warned in a report over the weekend.

“Lower-tier candidates are struggling just to be heard,” it added.

Sanders is too old, Biden is too boring/milquetoast and Warren is too radical. Meanwhile, the other candidates are in most cases simply too crazy.

Obama, on the other hand, would be perfect. She’d represent her husband’s policies, which, while certainly far to the left, were relatively “moderate” in comparison to the contemporary Democrat Party’s radical policy proposals.

And Democrats can rest assured that her popularity among Democrats extends way beyond New Hampshire. A nationwide poll conducted around the time of the midterm elections last year found Obama in second place with 17 percent, only two percentage points behind Biden’s 19 percent.

An even more distressing poll from that time period — distressing for Republicans, that is — found that she’d defeat Trump 50 percent to 43 percent were the election held between just the two of them.

Luckily for conservatives concerned about the star-power Obama would bring to the race — she’s one of the most admired women in the United States — the former first lady has repeatedly insisted that she has no intention of entering the race.

“Just between us, and the readers of this magazine — there’s zero chance,” she said in an interview with The National magazine just two months ago.

“There are so many ways to improve this country and build a better world, and I keep doing plenty of them, from working with young people to helping families lead healthier lives. But sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office will never be one of them. It’s just not for me.”

Should she be believed, though? It depends on who you ask. According to infamous political consultant Roger Stone, the answer is a resounding “no!”

During a dinner event two years ago with renowned political media producer Myra Adams, Stone predicted not only that Obama would one day run — but that she’d win as well.

“He proclaimed that former First Lady Michelle Obama would be a future presidential candidate — one who would be ‘formidable’ and should not be underestimated,” Adams recalled in a column shortly after the event occurred.

Adams was skeptical but wary about questioning Stone. But given the importance of the subject matter, she asked anyway.

“Do you really believe that Michelle Obama will run for president even though she supposedly hates politics?” she said to him.

“Just wait. Remember when I told you that Trump would win and you did not believe me?” he reportedly replied.

But it was Roger Stone, and he’s a pretty wild, unpredictable guy known for making outlandish statements, right? The same may not be said of Fox News host Dana Perino, a fairly level-headed character who’s so confident Obama won’t enter the race that she effectively “bet” one month’s worth of her salary on it.

“[S]he’s never going to do it,” Perino maintained while speaking with network colleague Tucker Carlson two months ago. “I think that is the case. Let’s say, if Michelle Obama decides to get in the race, I will donate a month’s salary to your favorite charity. How about that?”

So if not Obama, then who? How about her 18-year-old daughter Sasha?

“‘Sasha, you’ve got some free time. I think you’d do a great job’,” Obama “jokingly” said during a “Good Morning America” interview back in 2018 …

Listen:

But considering that the contemporary Democrat Party has put its support behind allowing children — yes, children — to participate in elections, it’s not really clear that she’d truly been joking.
