Retired Army Master Sergeant Mark Allen died Oct. 12 due to complications from a headshot wound he sustained in 2009 while searching for Army deserter Bowe Bergdahl in Afghanistan.

Allen was 46 years old. He leaves behind a wife and two children, according to an online funeral announcement.

Allen was shot in the head during the search mission for Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army sergeant who deserted his unit in Afghanistan in 2009.

Master Sergeant Mark Allen suffered traumatic brain injuries and was not able to talk or walk for the last 10 years of his life.

At his 2017 court-martial trial, Bergdahl admitted that he had deserted his post.  At the time, Bowe’s unit was worried that he had been captured, so they set out to rescue him.

Six soldiers were killed looking for Bergdahl, and several others were severely injured.

Bergdahl later pled guilty and was dishonorably discharged, reduced in rank from sergeant to private, and fined $1,000 a month for 10 months for “desertion and misbehavior.”

In other words, Bergdahl was only forced to pay a measly $10,000 for causing the deaths of six American soldiers.

Amazingly, during his 2017 court martial, Bergdahl trashed the U.S. Army for not being more forthright about what his future held.

“At least the Taliban were honest enough to say, ‘I’m the guy who’s gonna cut your throat,’” Bergdahl quipped. “Here, it could be the guy I pass in the corridor who’s going to sign the paper that sends me away for life. We may as well go back to kangaroo courts and lynch mobs.”

Meanwhile, Bergdahl did not seem grateful or saddened that six U.S. soldiers had died looking for him after he flippantly deserted his post.

Bowe Bergdahl was freed in 2014 as part of a controversial prisoner-exchange negotiated by Barack Obama.

Under the lopsided deal, Obama released five Taliban terrorists who were being held at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Bergdahl.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, then-candidate Donald Trump blasted Obama for releasing five violent Taliban soldiers in exchange for an American who had willfully deserted his post, endangered his unit and betrayed his country.

Thanks to Obama’s incompetence, the five Afghan Taliban members who were freed in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl have rejoined the Taliban, according to the Military Times.

As BizPacReview reported, President Trump is currently trying to withdraw thousands of American soldiers from Afghanistan.

The United States has spent $975 billion and lost over 7,000 US soldiers in Afghanistan since 2001, according to Statista. The bloody, expensive war has done nothing for Americans.

The cost of the war in Afghanistan skyrocketed under Barack Obama’s presidency.

Let this sink in: Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 — less than a year into his presidency.
