Dems claim they have enough votes to impeach in the House so why won’t Nancy Pelosi vote?

A senior member of the House Democratic Caucus told Fox News it’s unlikely that Speaker Nancy Pelosi will call a vote on impeachment in the House of Representatives even though they insist they have the 217 votes needed to pass articles of impeachment.

Why? Because the Caucus is worried that some Democrats still have “cold feet” about voting to impeach Trump considering the divided public sentiment on impeachment.

President Trump has called Nancy Pelosi on her bluff, and demanded that she take a vote in the Democrat-led House of Representatives.

Based purely on the numbers, there are enough Democrats in the House to pass articles of impeachment. Here’s the breakdown in the House:

  • 235 Democrats
  • 197 Republicans
  • 1 independent

The articles of impeachment need only pass by a simple majority — at least 217 votes. However, many say Pelosi has refused to take a vote because then it would set the formal process in motion and give Republicans some leverage.

Retired Congressman Jason Chaffetz (the former chairman of the House Oversight Committee) said the “impeachment inquiry” is merely a hollow PR stunt designed to manipulate public opinion during an election year.

“[If Pelosi took a vote], then the minority [Republicans] would get some rights,” Chaffetz explained. “Nancy Pelosi does not want the minority to have subpoena authority (to subpoena Hunter Biden).”

Chaffetz continued: “We know what comes next. There will be more ‘whistleblowers’ with more claims that cannot be definitively verified. They will all [claim they’re] afraid to come out in the open for fear of their lives, or fear of flying, or fear of retaliation. Until the Democrats need to use them and forget them, as they did to [Christine Blasey] Ford’s still-unverified allegations and to Schiff’s now-debunked memo.”

Chaffetz added: “Americans are not fooled. By now, most of us have heard the message loud and clear. [Democrat] Al Green told us exactly what it was about when he told MSNBC, ‘I’m concerned that if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.'”

Republican Congressman Doug Collins, an attorney, underscored that Democrats are no closer to impeaching President Trump than they were last month or last year.

Collins tweeted: “Merely claiming the House is ‘conducting an impeachment inquiry’ doesn’t make it so. Until the full House votes to authorize an inquiry, nobody is conducting a formal inquiry.”

Democrat Congressman Eliot Engel agrees that nothing substantive is happening. It’s all political theater right now. Engel said that “what House panels are doing is essentially the same as what they have been [doing] all along.”

Pelosi is aware that most Americans do not want impeachment because they saw how it divided the country when Republicans impeached Bill Clinton. It wasted millions of dollars in taxpayer money and still failed to remove Clinton from office.

The strategy also backfired on Republicans, who were voted out in 2000 in huge numbers amid negative public sentiment toward their impeachment efforts.

As it is, even if the Democrat-led House voted to impeach President Trump, the Republican-led Senate would still have to convict him before he’s actually impeached. And even if Trump were impeached, that doesn’t mean he gets removed.

Democrats Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were the only presidents in U.S. history who were actually impeached. However, they weren’t removed from office. Why? Because their impeachment trials failed to gain a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate.

In fact, there has never been a U.S. president removed from office using the impeachment process. Pelosi knows this, and that’s why she has not asked the House to vote.

If Pelosi calls a vote, the impeachment charade would eventually crumble. Reminder: When you come at the king, you best not miss.
