The mainstream media have been peddling a Democrat-crafted conspiracy theory alleging that the National Rifle Association served as a “foreign asset” to Russia ahead of the 2016 presidential election and must, therefore, have its tax-exempt status revoked immediately.
But in a report released last week, the GOP majority of the Senate Committee on Finance posited that these allegations are “meritless … conclusory innuendo” rooted in politics.
“The Minority report reads more like a political document directed at an organization well known in U.S. politics to be despised by Democrats because of its advocacy for Second Amendment rights,” it reads, referencing a report produced by the committee’s Democrat minority.
It was within that highly dubious “Minority report” — which the media made sure to highlight in multiple stories, much as they had done with the since-debunked Russia collusion delusion conspiracy theories — that the allegations were introduced.
Observe how the media broadcast this report while ignoring the GOP’s findings:

A constant stream of evidence flows connecting Republican politicians w/ corruption. Ties btw the NRA & Russia show more examples of illegal, traitorous GOP conduct.

The majority of the stories seen above contained no information about the GOP’s counter-findings. Instead, the media only ran with the Democrats’ habitually disputable findings.
“This Majority finds no wrongdoing by the NRA or its officials that would reasonably call into question the NRA’s tax-exempt status, based on the documents provided to the Committee,” the GOP majority’s own report, which was released last Friday, continues.
“The Minority report concludes that NRA members’ travel to Russia in 2015 and meeting with Russian officials ‘raises concerns about whether the activity in which the NRA, its officers, and board members engaged were in furtherance of the organization’s exempt purpose.’ It also concludes that NRA officials’ possibly having met with sanctioned individuals ‘raise significant concerns under U.S. sanctions law.'”
But according to the GOP majority, these allegations are “meritless.”

The GOP report further notes that, instead of deriving their conclusions about the NRA from concrete facts, the Democrats chose to base their conclusions on unproven assumptions.
“The Minority report finds no facts that give rise to the possibility that personnel associated with the NRA engaged in any activities that call into question its tax-exempt status,” it reads.
“The Minority Report takes hold of the common practice of business travelers, giving multiple purposes to their business trips so that ordinary behavior is painted with some supposedly nefarious purpose.”
It’s the exact same strategy that the Democrats and their trollish media allies have been using to smear President Donald Trump over a phone call he made over the summer to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It was recently learned that, during the call, the president suggested that Zelensky look into credible allegations that 2020 contender former Vice President Joe Biden had purposefully interfered in Ukraine’s political system five years earlier to benefit his own son, Hunter Biden.
Democrats and their media allies seized on this finding to accuse the president of pressuring Zelensky to investigate Biden (FALSE) in exchange for something (FALSE).
“In the end, the Minority report contains much conclusory innuendo about an organization, the NRA, and repeatedly attempts to paint a picture that does not exist,” the GOP’s report continues. “The Minority report uses terms like ‘raises concerns’ in an attempt to embarrass the NRA while absolving the Minority from having to assert any serious factual or legal analysis.”
“The Minority report exaggerates several details while omitting or downplaying mitigating facts. The Minority report states, on several occasions, that it was unable to establish many assertions that it purports to make. In the Minority report, statements like these are often inserted at the end of a section, left without any analysis or elaboration.”
It’s exactly how the media operates, ironically enough, as they have a proven habit of publishing allegedly “bombshell” stories but turning around and burying the real lede. This strategy was especially popular during the witch hunt against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last year.

“Glossing over such facts just because they are damning to a narrative does not mean they do not exist,” the GOP’s report concludes. “Despite this, the Minority report seeks to use this report as justification for a compulsory audit of the NRA in order to conduct yet another fishing expedition for wrongdoing. Therefore, the Majority finds that the facts do not support the Minority’s narrative or conclusions.”
The same was true of the countless conservative nonprofits that the administration of then-President Barack Hussein Obama tried to illegally target with the IRS back in 2010 and beyond.
