Democrats have pushed all in on trying to impeach President Donald Trump and are showing no signs of letting up in their partisan effort to remove a sitting president.
They know time is not on their side, with the 2020 elections looming.
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said in an appearance Sunday on “60 Minutes” he plans to subpoena Trump’s personal lawyer attorney Rudy Giuliani for documents tied to the Ukraine scandal.
“We’re going to need evidence from Rudy Giuliani,” the lawmaker said. “And it’s our intention as soon as first thing next week to subpoena him for documents. And there may very well come a time where we want to hear from him directly.”
(The interview was taped on Friday, so “next week” is this week.)
Earlier in the day on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Schiff told host Chuck Todd that he did not want to “commit” to subpoenaing Giuliani to appear before his committee.
“I don’t want to commit myself to that at this point,” he said. “We certainly have to do a lot of work to see what Giuliani has been doing in Ukraine.”
Giuliani’s name came up in the call between Trump and the Ukrainian president, with Trump asking his counterpart to get to the bottom of former vice president Joe Biden threatening to withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees if Ukraine did not fire a top prosecutor investigating corruption — the prosecutor in question was investigating Burisma Holdings, an oil company that employed Biden’s son, Hunter, paying him as much as $50,000 a month to sit on a board.
The media consistently reports “no evidence” had surfaced that shows Hunter Biden did anything illegal, though no one seems to be bothering to look for any evidence.
Schiff told “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley the whistleblower at the center of the controversy has agreed to testify before his committee.
“Do you expect the testimony of the whistleblower?” Pelley asked the Democrat.
“Absolutely,” the chairman answered.
“Your committee already has an agreement with the whistleblower that he will testify?” Pelley pressed.
“We have an agreement that he or she will testify, yes,” Schiff assured him.
However, an attorney representing the whistleblower, reportedly a CIA officer who does not have firsthand knowledge of the phone call, took to social media to suggest that nothing definitive has been set.
“Discussions continue to occur to coordinate & finalize logistics, but no date/time has yet been set,” the tweet read.
NEWS ALERT: Re: whistleblower testimony
We continue to work w/both parties in House & Senate and we understand all agree that protecting whistleblower’s identity is paramount. Discussions continue to occur to coordinate & finalize logistics but no date/time has yet been set.

As he is known to do, President Trump threw kerosene on a raging fire in a Monday morning tweet on Schiff.
Referencing the chairman ad-libbing at last week’s hearing about what Trump said on the call with the Ukrainian leader, the president raised the idea of arresting Schiff for treason.
“Rep. Adam Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & terrible statement, pretended it to be mine as the most important part of my call to the Ukrainian President, and read it aloud to Congress and the American people. It bore NO relationship to what I said on the call. Arrest for Treason?” Trump tweeted.

Schiff said at the hearing that the president’s actions detailed in the whistleblower complaint read like “a classic organized crime shakedown.”
