Geraldo bets whistleblower complaint can be traced to ‘a group like Media Matters’

Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera believes the whistleblower who filed a complaint about President Trump’s Ukraine call must have had help from “a group like Media Matters.”

Rivera addressed the complaint, which was made public this week, during a panel discussion on Fox News’ “The Five,” noting that he was not pointing fingers directly at the left-wing organization but suggesting that the anonymous source of the complaint did not act alone.

The guest co-host on “The Five” slammed the White House West Wing that is filled with “vipers and snakes and backstabbers and rats,” as he called out “the Russia collusion illusion delusion 2.0” and who is behind the whistleblower complaint.

Katie Pavlich, also co-hosting the program, questioned the timing of the complaint’s release with lawmakers having a scant two hours to review it before House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff launched into hearings this week.

“So, obviously, it’s political. You know, Democrats are doing this to set up the president,” she pointed out.

“The reason why [Attorney General] Bill Barr is mentioned in the complaint is obviously tactical to try to take him out so he cannot defend the president just like [former Attorney General] Jeff Sessions could not defend the president against the Russia probe,” she added. “It’s very tactical in what was said and what was laid out.”

Pavlich noted that there’s also “a lot of fodder” for Republicans there as well.

“Half a dozen U.S. officials that are named in the complaint, well, who are those people? Can they bring them up and say ‘why didn’t you file a whistleblower report if this was that important?’ And also, who’s behind the writing of the complaint?” she asked.

“This is not just an email that someone sent as a ‘Hey, I have information, I need to meet with you.’ It’s very clearly written by a lawyer or a team of lawyers and possibly a research team,” she suggested, as Rivera agreed, saying it was likely a “big law firm.”

“Or a team of lawyers and possibly a research team, at a research firm,” Pavlich said.

“I bet it can be traced ultimately — and I’m not accusing them — but a group like Media Matters is in here with their dirty hands,” Rivera added.

The veteran journalist went on to make a side point about his disappointment that President Trump had not formally designated his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, as a special presidential envoy.

“One thing I want to say the mistake the president made is having Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer go doing State business. Why didn’t the president make Rudy Giuliani a special presidential envoy?” Rivera wondered. “We have presidential envoys. We have one for hostage negotiations. We have several different special — so then he has — he had standing.”

In an earlier appearance on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” on Friday, Rivera slammed the “rotten snitch” whose complaint about Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky set off the impeachment inquiry by House Democrats.

“I’d love to wap him, but that’s another story,” Rivera declared.
