Trump reacts to Pelosi’s impeachment proclaimation

President Donald Trump appears to believe that the Democrats’ decision to pursue a formal impeachment inquiry against him is rooted in their desire to, one, prevent his reelection, and two, protect lead Democrat 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Democrats can’t beat President Donald Trump on his policies or his stellar record of accomplishment, so they’re trying to turn a Joe Biden scandal into a Trump problem,” his campaign said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.

The misguided Democrat impeachment strategy is meant to appease their rabid, extreme, leftist base, but will only serve to embolden and energize President Trump’s supporters and create a landslide victory for the President.”

The statement was issued roughly 30 minutes after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched a formal impeachment inquiry against the president over a still-unsubstantiated media-concocted conspiracy theory concerning a phone call he made over the summer to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Last week, members of the media ran a report claiming via anonymous sources that a whistleblower within the Trump administration had filed a complaint with Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson about a “troubling” promise that the president had allegedly made to Zelensky.

Only two aspects of the story have been confirmed thus far.

One, a reportedly politically biased whistleblower did indeed file a complaint about the call, though the acting director of national intelligence ultimately ruled that the complaint wasn’t of “urgent concern.”

Two, the president did speak with Zelensky over the phone sometime this past summer. And during the conversation, the president discussed “Joe Biden in the context of fighting ‘corruption’ in the country,” according to CBS News.

“Mr. Trump and his allies, in particular personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, have accused Biden of pushing for the ouster of a Ukrainian prosecutor while he was vice president in order to benefit his son.”

Democrats and their media allies have claimed that this brief discussion of Biden’s alleged corruption merits a formal impeachment inquiry. They’ve also claimed without evidence that the president’s decision to withhold roughly $400million in military aid to Ukraine only days before the call was an attempt to force Zelensky to investigate Biden.

Based on these beliefs, Pelosi launched a formal impeachment inquiry on Tuesday.

“This week, the president has admitted to asking the president of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically,” she said during a presser. “The actions of the Trump presidency revealed dishonorable facts of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections.”

“Therefore today, I’m announcing the House of Representatives moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. I am directing our six committees to proceed with their investigations under that umbrella of impeachment inquiry.”

The president has refuted nearly every allegation against him, including the conspiratorial claim that he’d pressured Zelensky to investigate Biden and his son.

Over the weekend, for instance, he drew attention to remarks made by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko that undercut the Democrats’ entire case against him.

Speaking with TV station Hromadske, Prystaiko made it clear that there was nothing troubling about Trump’s phone call with Zelensky.

“I know what the conversation was about, and I think there was no pressure,” he said. “There was talk. Leaders have the right to discuss any problems that exist. This conversation was long, friendly, and it touched on a lot of questions, including those requiring serious answers.”

The president has also maintained that the real scandal is the one surrounding Biden, whose son Hunter appears to have benefited greatly financially from actions his father had taken as vice president back around 2014.

The story goes like this: When the 2014 Ukrainian revolution broke out, Biden traveled to Kiev to work with the new government. But three weeks after his arrival, the scandal- and corruption-plagued natural gas company Burisma hired the then-VP’s son.

It was a shocking move given Hunter’s lack of experience. According to ABC News journalist Tom Llamas, he suddenly went from being “discharged from the Navy Reserves for testing positive for cocaine” to earning “more than a million dollars a year.”

Regarding the newfound impeachment inquiry against him, the president’s responded primarily with anger over how much damage these hearings will do to the country.

He’s also complained that they’ve distracted the public from his otherwise successful appearances at the U.N. General Assembly.

The president has suggested however that the Democrats’ latest efforts to target him will backfire on them as usual and ultimately lead to his reelection come 2020.
