Pelosi slips into impeachment interview that endgame is to make sure Trump can’t win election

Hours before House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered her statement about an impeachment inquiry of President Trump, she seemed to pull back the curtain on the true motive of Democrats.

Before the California congresswoman announced that the House would be “moving forward” with an impeachment inquiry on Tuesday, riding the wave of criticism being leveled at the president for a phone call he made in July with the leader of Ukraine, she denied political motivation while admitting that the end game is to ultimately remove Trump from office.

Pelosi made the impeachment announcement after months of resisting the demands by the progressive members of her caucus, and amid a scandal Democrats have been trying to shift on to Trump while conveniently ignoring the wrongdoings of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

“The actions of the Trump presidency revealed the dishonorable fact of the President’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections,” Pelosi said in a news conference Tuesday. “Therefore, today, I am announcing the House of Representatives moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry.”

But the true nature of the political game was exposed just a few hours before the Speaker’s announcement as she spoke with Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg at The Atlantic Festival.

“If we have to honor our oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic, that’s what we’ll have to do,” Pelosi told Goldberg. “But we have to have the facts. That’s why I’ve said, soon as we have the facts, we’re ready.”

“Now we have the facts. We’re ready … for later today,” she added, before saying that Trump was “making lawlessness a virtue in our country.”

Goldberg pressed her repeatedly on the possibility of impeachment and the reasons behind the extreme move, as Pelosi continued to assert the pressing need for impeachment proceedings as a way to defend the Constitution.

“Do you understand, putting the issues of constitutionality aside and law breaking aside, do you see peril in going down the path that now two-thirds of your caucus want to go down?” Goldberg asked. “Are we talking about a political calculation that impeachment process will turn President Trump into a martyr and activate his base even more?”

Pelosi insisted there was nothing political behind the plan to launch impeachment proceedings, which she had yet to formally announce.

“Look, I don’t think politics has anything to do with this,” she replied. “It has nothing to do with politics or partisanship. This is about patriotism.”

“People say you’re just trying to protect your members. No,” the Democrat asserted, claiming “absolute certainty” that her party would retain the majority in the House.

“What’s more serious is that he can’t win,” she declared.

“That is very serious for our country, to us as America. What is America? America is our Constitution with our system of checks and balances. A republic, freedom of expression, freedom of the press – the guardian of our democracy, the press. That’s America,” she added, as she went on to ramble about Ronald Reagan and immigrants before condemning Trump again for dishonoring the Constitution.

Pelosi had dramatically criticized the director of national intelligence for  “breaking the law at the direction of the president” by withholding a whistle-blower complaint about Trump asking the Ukrainian president to investigate the business dealings of Biden’s son in the country.

But Trump, who was in New York at the United Nations, announced that there was no quid pro quo in his conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and that he would be releasing the transcript of the phone call.

The president blasted Democrats for their attempts to “ruin and demean” the important day at the U.N.

He followed with a series of tweets thanking those who were also condemning the move by Pelosi and her caucus while leveling a scathing rebuke at Democrats.

Trump leveled a final blow – sans caption – showing the shameful obsession of Democrats in a video montage.

The relentless pursuit of impeachment seems to be all Democrats are banking on, as some are reportedly concerned that none of their 2020 candidates can withstand the president’s assaults.

And Pelosi’s remarks at The Atlantic Festival only served to drive the point home for Twitter users.
