+President Donald Trump has set the record straight about his controversial phone call with Ukrainian officials.
And he’s pulling no punches. He says the call was largely about Biden’s “corruption.”
Speaking to reporters on Sunday morning, the president cleared up rumors about the call and said it was largely about Joe Biden’s alleged corruption.
“This is a very dishonest thing that Joe Biden did and then he said he never spoke to his son,” Trump said, referring to Biden’s recent claim that he had never spoken to his son Hunter about overseas business dealings. The new statement from the former vice president seems to contradict a past statement where Biden’s son did admit to speaking to his father about his business dealings on at least one occasion.
The president went into more detail about the call and put Biden’s feet to the fire.
“But what he said is that he wouldn’t give, I think, it was billions of dollars to Ukraine unless they fired the prosecutor who was looking at his son and his son’s company, the company that his son worked with, and that’s a very dishonest thing. And I’m not looking to hurt Biden or even looking to hold him to it, to be honest, but he said a very bad thing,” Trump said.
Trump also said the call was “was largely [about] fact that we don’t want our people like Vice President Biden and his son creating to the corruption already in the Ukraine.”
He added that he has no problem with people like Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer, speaking to Congress, which has launched an investigation into the July phone call. The investigation started with reports that there had been a whistleblower complaint about the phone call.
Trump said Biden’s son’s business dealings in places like China should be reason enough for him not to be president. He predicted Biden would “sell us out” if he were negotiating with China because he would personally benefit from it.
Trump said the phone call was not the “quid pro quo” critics are trying to make it out to be. He described it as “perfect” and a “warm, friendly” conversation.
For his part, Biden has attempted to capitalize on the conspiracy theories and claims the phone call was to get dirt on him ahead of 2020.
“Depending on what the House finds, he could be impeached but I’m not making that judgment now,” Biden said of Trump and the phone call. “The House should investigate it, this appears to be an overwhelming abuse of power.”
A top Ukrainian official has also stepped forward to defend the president’s call with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
“I know what the conversation was about and I think there was no pressure,” Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko told the Hromadske media outlet. “There was talk, conversations are different, leaders have the right to discuss any problems that exist. This conversation was long, friendly, and it touched on many questions, sometimes requiring serious answers.”
Despite all of this, Democrats are unwilling to let go of the call.
Adam Schiff even reacted to Trump’s new comments about the call in an appearance on CNN where he called for the transcript of the call to be released.

Despite there being no smoke, Democrats still think there’s fire.
