The troubling tale of wide receiver Antonio Brown took another plot twist on Friday when his third NFL team of 2019 cut bait on him after another allegation surfaced.
The New England Patriots released Brown Friday afternoon after Sports Illustrated (SI) reported he sent threatening text messages to one of his sexual assault accusers that included images of her children.

The latest SI story on the Pro Bowl athlete includes images of the “intimidating” texts Brown sent his accuser after the magazine published a story earlier in the week detailing the unwanted advances he made toward her in his home. She had been hired to paint a mural of him, but he “ghosted” her after she rebuffed him.

Wednesday night, Brown texted the woman with images of her children and on Thursday the woman’s lawyer sent a letter including screen captures of those messages to the NFL. His texts to her that also copied others claimed that she made the allegations for money.
“Our client … is understandably frightened by these text messages, which are clearly intended to threaten and intimidate her,” attorney Lisa J. Banks wrote in her letter to the league. “While she certainly qualifies as a ‘starving artist,’ she has never approached Mr. Brown, nor will she, about seeking money to compensate her for his sexual misconduct, contrary to his allegations in the text messages.”
SI reported that the league “responded to the letter within the hour, arranging for a phone call between investigators and the attorneys for the artist, according to a source with knowledge of the arrangement.”
“This sort of intimidation and harassment is the reason victims are often so reluctant to step forward in these cases,” Banks told SI. “We have confidence the NFL and the Patriots will step in and end this behavior.”

The unnamed mural artist who has sought to remain anonymous told SI that Brown hired her to paint a mural in his home for the fee of $1000 a day. The published SI story summarizes the incident …
On her second day at Brown’s home, the artist told SI she was in a kneeling position while painting when she turned to find Brown behind her, naked, holding a small hand towel over his genitals. “He was flirty with me, but I paid him no mind because I was there on business—plus I had already seen him with multiple girls in the short time I was with him,” said the woman. “I was about 40% done on the second day, and I’m on my knees painting the bottom, and he walks up to me butt-ass naked, with a hand cloth covering his [penis] and starts having a conversation with me.” She took it as a clear sexual come-on.
“Unfortunately, I’ve been tried [by men] a lot of times, so I just kept my cool and kept painting,” she says. “After that, it all ended abruptly.” After the SI story posted, Brown’s lawyer, Heitner, tweeted that Brown “denies that he ever engaged in such activities.”
Sports Illustrated has been investigating Brown and conducted interviews with dozens of people who have worked with him or known him. Allegations that have recently become public include multiple sexual assaults on former trainer Britney Taylor who has filed a federal lawsuit against the athlete in Florida.
The Patriots were the third NFL team to have had Brown on their roster in 2019 before they decided he was too much trouble, even considering his commendable football talents. In March, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded him to the Oakland Raiders when internal team issues with Brown made his departure a necessity. The Raiders released him in early September after multiple unexcused absences and verbal and physical altercations with the team’s general manager.
