Soccer fans booed U.S. Armed Forces enlistees this week at a swearing-in ceremony that took place at a match between the Portland Thorns and the North Carolina Courage.
The fans were booing the fact that the enlistees had to at one point pledge to follow the orders of their commander-in-chief, President Donald Trump. Agreeing to follow the orders of the president, by the way, is part of every swearing-in ceremony for every man or woman who joins the U.S. Armed Forces.
The National Women’s Soccer League game took place in Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.
The young enlistees earned applause after the swearing-in ceremony was complete, but the line “obey the orders of the president of the United States” earned a surprising amount of boos from the crowd.

The National Women’s Soccer League does not have a code of conduct for fans, but political signage has been banned at games.
The booing may have been bad luck for the Thorns as they ended up losing the game 6-0.
Reaction on social media has not been kind.
“Not a good look Portland. 100% for free speech, 100% against Trump, but I’m 100% for the people who VOLUNTEER to fight for America and this is very disrespectful to them… but also why was this happening at a game?” one Twitter user wrote in reaction.
“Completely disrespectful. Glad they lost,” another user said of the Thorns and their fans.
“Our boys shed their blood for these morons/I bet they wouldn’t boo if a Chinese, Russian soldier was about to kill them and this soldier saved them/Portland Thorns fans boo US Armed Forces enlistees after they pledged to obey president’s orders,” said another.
Another added, “This is what we are up against. Disgusting hatred to our Military, people that put their lives on the line get booed on a day that should be sacred to them.”
“It’s Portland, home is ANTIFA!! What did you expect?” another user wrote, referencing recent violent Antifa activity that has occurred in Portland with seemingly no serious consequences from law enforcement and the government.
The swearing-in ceremony at the soccer match was meant to be a patriotic act in honor of 9/11, but the whole act backfired thanks to the extreme leftist fans.
“They obviously didn’t do their homework on the Northwest,” one user wrote about having the swearing-in ceremony at a women’s soccer match in Portland, Oregon, a city that is considered by man to be far left in its policies.
Portland, OR is trash city; ruled by corrupt, terrorist, un-Americans. The Portland Thorns soccer fans “boo’d” military enlistees during their swearing in ceremony while at the soccer game. A complete disgrace to future fighters for US military. #PortlandTrash

For some reason, halftime at the Thorns game was used for a ceremony to swear-in a group of military enlistees. Crowd boos when they pledge to serve the president of the United States. ? #NWSL #BAONPDX #PORvNC pic.twitter.com/7d7ZUJYbbo
