While campaigning in North Carolina’s ninth district on Monday, President Donald Trump warned locals that a vote for Democrats in either Tuesday’s local special election or in the upcoming 2020 presidential elections would lead to the destruction of the American dream.
He made the remarks while campaigning on behalf of state Dan Bishop, who’s pining for the seat of former Rep. Robert Pittenger in a special election to be held Tuesday.
“You must never forget that the 2020 election is about one thing,” the president said. “You. It’s true. It’s not about me. It’s about you. It’s about your family, your future, and the fate of your country.”
“That’s what we did in 2016 … They came from the hills and the valleys, they came from the cities, they came from all over the place,” he continued, describing the last election. “And people were saying — these fakers back there — they were saying, ‘What the hell is happening.’ But I knew it was going to happen, because we’d go out and we’d see these rallies the likes of which nobody had ever seen before.”
Trump then hit at his core point: “A vote for any Democrat in 2020 and a vote for any Democrat tomorrow in North Carolina is a vote for the rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the American Dream.”

Were his remarks just hyperbolic campaign statements, or was there legitimacy to them? The answer depends on how you define the American dream.
If, like legal immigrants past and present, you define it as the freedom and opportunity to work hard, achieve access and live freely in America, then it could very well be true.
The policy proposals offered by this year’s crop of Democrat presidential candidates are highly radical and encompass everything from eliminating combustion engines to getting rid of natural gas drilling, coal mining, oil/gas fracking, and even baby-making, apparently.
These and more proposals were outlined last week during a CNN-hosted town hall on so-called climate change. In a column posted after the event, renowned conservative commentator David Limbaugh — the brother of radio show host Rush Limbaugh — opined that it sounded as if Democrats wanted to lead Americans back to the Stone Age.
“Each candidate was more ridiculous than the next. It was a painful spectacle to endure,” he wrote. “Kamala Harris seemed to realize how ridiculous she sounded when she said she would favor banning plastic straws … Being the shrewd lawyer she is, Harris also said the government must take action to reduce Americans’ red meat consumption.”
Meanwhile, Andrew Yang suggested that he “might ban commercial air travel,” Bernie Sanders advocated for population caps and Elizabeth Warren called for a new carbon tax.
Warren has previously called for confiscating wealth from the haves and using the revenue generated from this endeavor to basically fund the life of every child’s life from birth until the age of 18.

The views of some millennials left many scratching their heads.
“At this point, we need somebody who can really push forward radically,” one college student said in support of Sanders, who tried but failed to win the 2016 election as well.
Another student added at the time that he supported Sanders because “he wants to kind of destruct capitalism.”
But the president offered a stark contrast between the proposals of the Democrats and the proposals and policy decisions of his Republican administration.
“Democrats are now the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, late term abortion, and socialism,” he reportedly said about about 50 minutes into the rally. “They’re socialists.”
“The Republican Party is the party of the American worker, the American family and the American dream. Every day, we’re making good on the motto promises made, promises kept,” he added. “In fact, we are keeping even more promises by far than we made or that we promised.”
It wasn’t the first time he’d trotted out this refrain, and it likely won’t be the last time.
He said it in a tweet at the start of the year:
