Democrat James Clyburn: The left is attacking the Bill of Rights and the Constitution

Democratic Congressman James Clyburn  says he’s “not too sure” the Bill of Rights would pass in today’s radical political climate.

Clyburn, the House majority whip, suggested that the Democratic Party has veered so far-left in their attacks on the First and Second Amendments that he doubts the Bill of Rights would survive today.

Clyburn is also the third highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives.

“I really believe sincerely, with the climate that we’re in today, that if the Bill of Rights — the first 10 amendments of the United States Constitution — were put before the public today, I’m not too sure that we would hold onto the Bill of Rights,” Clyburn told MSNBC. “Especially when I see what people are doing with the Second Amendment. And no telling what they would do with the First Amendment.”

That confession shocked the MSNBC host, who replied, “That’s a startling statement. You believe that?”

“Absolutely. There would be strong support against the Bill of Rights,” Congressman Clyburn answered. “Go through the Bill of Rights, and I’ll tell you I run into people every day who would like to see so much of those guarantees uprooted.”

While Clyburn didn’t specifically blame the left for the erosion of free speech and the Second-Amendment right to own firearms for self-defense, he suggested as much in his statements.

“You don’t tear stuff up in order to ‘improve on it,'” Clyburn said. “Let’s look at what’s wrong. Let’s look at what can be improved and let’s go out and work together to improve these things — not just throw things out and say, ‘Let’s start over.’ No. No. We don’t start over in this country. We correct our faults.”

Before heaping praise on Jim Clyburn for being a “reasonable Democrat,” keep in mind that he was recently caught on audio derisively laughing while denying the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

For months, Democrats and the left-wing media accused President Trump of “manufacturing” a crisis. In recent weeks — when they could no longer deny that the border crisis is real— Democrats and the media finally admitted that there is indeed an emergency at the border.

In the brief audio excerpt, Clyburn chuckled when a CNN host asked him if he agreed with President Trump that there was a “humanitarian crisis” at the border.

He replied, “Absolutely not.”

Jim Clyburn’s statement that “You don’t tear stuff up in order to ‘improve on it'” was presumably a reference to the mass Antifa efforts to erase American history.

As BizPac Review reported, one attack involved the destruction of historical Confederate statues.

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley trashed alt-left Antifa anarchists who were tearing down statues they suddenly find racist, saying they needed to calm down.

“I’m not going to waste my time worrying about these Confederate statues,” said Barkley, who has voted for Democrats most of his life. “That’s wasted energy.”

In 2017, violent Antifa mass-destroyed Confederate statues around the United States, claiming they’re racist.

But these same statues existed during the eight-year presidency of Barack Obama — the nation’s first black president.

In addition, several statues of explorer Christopher Columbus were also destroyed.

That prompted Italian-Americans, like comedian Joe Piscopo, to say Antifa will destroy the Columbus statue at New York’s Columbus Circle over his dead body.

“That statue at Columbus Circle in New York, it ain’t coming down,” Piscopo told Tucker Carlson. “We [Italian-Americans] are not going down, and neither is that statue. If you have time to tear down a statue, you have too much time on your hands.”
