DiGenova: Horowitz found FISA warrants used to spy on Carter Page ‘were illegal from the get-go’

Joe diGenova, former U.S. attorney to the District of Columbia, dropped a bombshell of sorts Monday during a radio interview on WMAL.

According to diGenova, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz has determined that the FISA warrants used to begin surveilling former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page were obtained illegally.

The assertion came while the WMAL legal analyst was commenting on whether the Trump administration is unwinding domestic surveillance.

“I don’t want them winding down a thing if they’re spying on people overseas,” he said. “If they’re spying on Americans, I don’t want them lying to the FISA Court the way the Obama administration did.”

This being a clear reference to the efforts the FBI made to obtain a warrant to spy on Page.

And that’s when he dropped the bombshell.

“For the record, I can report categorically that the Inspector General has found that all four FISA warrants were illegal — they were based on false information supplied to the FISA Court,” diGenova said. “And that [IG] Michael Horowitz has concluded that all four FISA warrants were illegal from the get-go.”

He didn’t say how he came to know this to be true, other than to say that Horowitz’s report is done and being circulated,  and “bit and pieces” are getting out.

“Which means that [fired FBI director James] Comey lied on the first one,” diGenova added. “Whoever signed the other three, including [former Deputy attorney General] Rob Rosenstein, the masterful savant who ran the department like the fool that he was for two and a half years, they were all false.

“And if they didn’t know they were false, they were so incompetent and stupid.”

He went on to say that Rosenstein “was just trying to pass the buck” because he was thinking about was his next job, “which he hoped would be a circuit judgeship.”

The segment began with a focus on CNN hiring former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, who was fired in March 2018 after the Justice Department inspector general report found he had repeatedly misstated his involvement in a leak to The Wall Street Journal regarding an FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation, according to Fox News.

Federal prosecutors are nearing a decision on whether to charge McCabe for events that led to his firing last year, Fox News reported on Monday.

“It’s a marriage made in heaven, McCabe and CNN,” diGenova said. “Just put it in your mind for just a second. Here is an officially sanctioned, government-approved liar.  The inspector general has concluded in a formal government document that he lied under oath. He lied also while not under oath. He was fired. He’s disgraced. He was referred for criminal prosecution. It is the perfect person to be a contributor to CNN.”

DiGenova then went after CNN and anchor Brian Stelter, who was blasted Sunday for standing idly by when an unhinged psychiatry professor said that President Donald Trump was worse than Hitler, Stalin and Mao, and “may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were.”

“They are where the New York Times is right now,” he added. “They are in a state of utter disrepair. That blathering by Brian Stelter, I mean he really is an embarrassment to all people in the media, but particularly television. He is a class A moron.”
